iphone

Santa, or at least my husband was very generous at Christmas and presented me with a shiny new 16GB iPhone.  It really was a dream gift and is my favourite new toy.  Now for those of you who own Blackberry’s stop reading… because I am about to tell the world just how the iPhone trounces your Smartphone…

What’s not to love, it’s super sexy, available in black and traditional “Apple White” with a 3.5 inch touch screen, which is a dream to use, and very responsive I might add.  But the real feature that makes the iPhone a winner is the applications available – Over 15,000 of them.  There is an application for everything, making many of life’s mundane to-do’s and tasks fun again.  I have applications that remind me of birthdays, practical and functional To-Do lists, recipe data bases, Facebook, Google Maps and very basic SatNav.  Some applications catalogue all my sons previous doctors visits and notes on medication.  I’ve even installed one touch Wikipedia and a baby monitor.  I could go on and on…

While the applications and features that are available are endless, the iPhone is not a serious business phone.  It’s a toy, and serious exec’s with the need for constant email and smsing may find that the touch screen keyboard is not very user friendly.  The Blackberry takes a point there…

The iPod feature is great, allowing album art and really taking the iPod to the next level. The iPhone also allows syncing with your SatNav Garmin, and for those with hands free Bluetooth, instant car kit.

The beauty of the iPhone is how easy it is to use and setup, even for techno-phobes. Connect it to your computer and it automatically sets up your email for you with zero fuss and hair pulling.

The iPhones most nifty feature however is the accelerometer, which senses the rotation of the device, allowing for sideways viewing and wide-screen Internet.

The 3G Internet is fast and pretty reliable, and when using the WiFi feature at home or at coffee shops, it can be used in conjunction with Skype as a phone to make free calls while drinking your latte.

Features I would love to see on the upgrade is MMS (i know! No MMS, that’s crazy) and video capabilities, which are sorely missed.

Overall it’s an AWESOME piece of technology , and even after having it for 3 months I love it as much as the day I got it, if not more. The mobile email has allowed my business to be more mobile and I rarely need to take my laptop along for the ride.
