Foundation Friday – Estee Lauder Double Wear

Today we kick off our first Foundation Friday, in association with Estee Lauder and I thought I’d start with Estee Lauder Double Wear. Before I got the opportunity to try this fabulous foundation, I had heard many great things about it’s staying power, and so, like many of you out there, I was curious to see if it really is all that great.

Before I get into the review, I’d just like to mention that although I had been sent a whole bunch info on the various foundations, I decided to try the product out first and read the product info later. This way, I can give the product a chance to dazzle me with no expectations, and dazzle it did!

After a week of using Double Wear foundation, one of the things I liked most was how nicely the product went on and felt. It’s almost as though it was made for my skin and looked completely flawless. I poured a small amount on the back of my hand and using a foundation brush, painted on the product. I use the word painted, because that’s almost what it feels like – as though I’m adding a fresh, fabulous coat that gives great cover and evens out my complexion. It felt like a second skin, with no cakey-feeling, patching or meltdown. In fact, it stayed on pretty much all day and felt so natural, that I often forgot I was wearing any foundation.

Double Wear foundation leaves absolutely no shiny spots and blends in perfectly well. The coverage is so great that I didn’t even feel the need for a concealer and as for the staying power… Ah-mazing! Once applied, it dries almost instantly and sets all on it’s own, which means there is no need for powder to set your foundation. This product truly is magic in a bottle and the ideal foundation for your five minute face.

On the techie side (the stuff from the press release) Estee Lauder is fade resistant (yes!), formulated to hold up under heat, humidity and perspiration (yes, yes and yes – I work in Durban North and trust me, when I say it lasts through the humidity!) and all this is due to a special transfer-resistant polymer trio, which adheres to skin, holding makeup in place, while still allowing the skin to breathe.

When I removed the product at night, my skin still looked fabulously cared for and there were no blocked pores, pimples, red spots or irritation to speak of. All in all, I found this to be an amazing day-to-day foundation because,it does a great job at evening out your complexion, keeping it natural, but all whilst respecting and caring for the skin.

* I must also mention the wonderful consultant at the Gateway Estee Lauder counter. I went in to find out what colour was best suited to my skin and without even applying the foundation he (yes HE) instantly knew which shade would work best for me (which almost never happens!). In case you’re wondering, it’s Tawny. My Mediterranean skin has yellowish undertones and I usually find that most foundations either make me look too ashey or too pink. But this shade blends in perfectly with my complexion!

It’s also good to know that Estee Lauder  offers a complimentary I-Match Foundation service at all its counters. This will help you find your perfect shade, finish and match plus you’ll get a free 10-day supply so you can try the foundation at home for yourself and be sure that the colour and formulation works for you! “Think of it as a playground for beauty –  it’s a quick, relaxed and interactive way to gain knowledge about what suits you as well as the chance to learn handy tips and tricks to get the most from your products – without the awkwardness we can sometimes experience in a daunting cosmetic environment.” Aliki Price, National Makeup Artistry Spokesperson

Hi I have been using Estee Lauder double wear foundation since last year October…and I absolutely love it..but i am having lot of difficulty in deciding which is the best colour for my skin…i ended up getting the wrong colour which i used until it finished recently. i dont understand my skin tone/undertone…currently am not sure if I prefer ivory beige or pebble. I am indian with dark brown hair n dark brown eyes, (but am always wearing grey contact lenses)…i believe i am olive skin colour…i felt i had yellow undertone…but someone i think pebble was suiting better on my face…though on my neck, i could see it to be little more pink than my face… i prefer gold jewellery to silver..but i think purples, pinks, blues suit me in clothing…can you please help..many thanks

Hi there! I am currently on a 10 day sample of the Double Wear foundation – Rich Chestnut – I am also Indian, with long dark brown hair and brown eyes, my skin tone is more on the dark-er side of Indian. The consultant that drew me to this product is from the Red Square branch at Ballito Lifestyle. She had a flawless skin and when I walked in she was the one I could not keep my eye off! So I asked her what she was wearing and voila! I am currently loving the product, the only shlep is, since I got the sample, the price of the product went up by 50 bucks! I want the product, just because no one thinks that I wear foundatiopn when I wear the Double wear. It just looks so natural on my skin, also very light and glides on easily. In my test, it gets an A+. Well done to Estee Lauder!
