Scarves, how we love you!

So, do you loop, tie or drape? As if we didn’t have enough decisions to make when we get up in the morning!

We at i heart your outfit know, that being the owner or a (or several) great scarfs can be a life saver. Once, a scarf was considered unnecessary and had a touch of the ‘Granny’ about them. But now, they’re one of fashion’s imperatives and trend setters, like Kate Moss and Sienna Miller, as well as bascially the whole cast of Gossip Girl, to name a few, are seldom seen without.

The thing that we most love about the humble scarf, is that it can make an entirely dull and uninspiring outfit unique, with just a flick of the wrist, or a wrap or a carefully, nonchalant drape. If nudes are all anyone is wearing and nudes wash you out and leave you looking like the walking dead (I, Emily, can verify this) then all it takes is a vividly coloured scarf worn with a nude dress and Bob’s your uncle. You can walk around in nudes to your heart’s content.

Another reason we so adore these squares of fabric, is that in times of recession or just when money is tight and buying a new outfit it out of the question, a scarf fills the gap just as well and, if you know where to look and don’t mind hunting for a bargain, it can feel like a new outfit for a fraction of the price.

That said, they can also cost loads too, which is also nice when you’re out to really spoil yourself. So whether you splash out on a Hermes number to tie in a jaunty bow around your neck, or you settle for a beautifully patterned one that brings out your eyes and just goes with everything, you have to know that you’re on to a good thing.

And if it gets too hot to wear your much loved accessory? Just tie it casually around the strap of your handbag…

Some of the best places to look for a new addition to your scarf collection are vintage shops, they always have an amazing array of luxurious choices that we can spend hours poring over. Also, check out chain stores like Truworths and Mr Price, we’ve stumbled across some gems there too. Happy hunting!
