MEN’S FASHION AT AFW 2011
This year’s Africa Fashion Week kicked off at the Sandton Convection Center with an intense lineup of amazing shows. There was a lavish amount of fashion and style for the ladies, but for us guys there was only 3 shows that incorporated a few men’s looks.
David Tlale
The men’s piece form David Tlale’s show was a mixture of traditional drapery and semi fitted suiting. The colours from this collection ranged form dusty browns to earthy greens with pops of silver that was brought in by the accessories.
Dax Martin
Dax Martin swimwear is known for their bright prints and small men’s swimsuits. This collection of speedos consisted out of brown and blue prints and is definitely not a range of swimwear that any guy can pull off but for some this might be a great summer – next to the pool or on the beach – choice.
Soucha
The Soucha collection was an amazing showcase of eclectic pieces with a strong Arabic and African fusion. The range was made up out of golds, crisp whites, and deep reds. This is a great example where you should be taking selected pieces – Scarfs, Turbans, and other Accessories – to add to your own personal style instead of wearing the entire runway look.
Whether you choose to go all out by wearing these collections straight off on the runway or decide to play it save by using pieces form the collection as inspiration for your own personal style, you will definitely be on trend.
