Confessions of a Beauty Girl – @KelliClifton

The last of our #BeautyConfessions, today’s one from Kelli Clifton, Beauty Assistant at FairLady Magazine

How did you get started in the beauty industry?
After interning at various magazines in many different departments for over two years, including FAIRLADY (twice), I interned in the Beauty Department and simply fell in love with it. After the beauty assistant at the time left, I decided to apply for the job and here I am today! Almost a year later!

What’s the best thing about your job?
Seeing your name in the byline of a story, being able to test fabulous products, communicating with fantastic clients who represent iconic brands, attending beauty launches, and lastly, living out my passion, which is beauty. Can life get any better? Dream job indeed!

What’s the most common questions girls ask you when they find out what you do?
“How did you get started in the beauty industry?”, “How many beauty products have you tried?”, “How long have you been in beauty for?”, and often, I also get asked advice as to where she can go have her hair, nails, etc done.

What was the last thing beauty item you purchased?
Beauty related? Seriously? I think it was earbuds….oh yes and nail varnish remover.

What are your top beauty products right now?

  1. Estée Lauder DayWear Plus Multi Protection Anti-Oxidant Crème ,
  2. AHAVA Mineral Botanic Velvet Cream Wash in Hibiscus & Fig,
  3. Estée Lauder Stay-in-place Eye Pencil in 03 Bronze,
  4. Guerlain Rouge Automatique Lipstick,
  5. Africology Vitamin Skin Booster Serum.

What are your all time fav products? Things you’ve loved since forever and can’t live without?

  • 1) Kalahari Lip Balm – My ultimate go-to for when I have dry lips. It’s fantastic. I carry two in my bag!
  • Nivea Body Lotion – A cream that nourishes my body from top to toe and lasts the entire day. Affordable, and smells gorgeous. A perfect product to maintain a spray tan,
  • Eucerin Dermo Purifyer Scrub – In a weird way, I believe that they developed this scrub especially for my skin. It’s oil-free, smells great and always leaves my skin feeling ultra smooth,
  • L’Oréal Série Expert Delicate Colour Shampoo – A wonderful lightweight shampoo that always leaves my hair shiny while also maintaining a healthy colour,
  • Narciso Rodriguez For Her – This is my best perfume. No matter how bad my mood is, this musky scent is an instant pick-me-up. It hypnotises me!.

Favourite beauty websites you visit:

Favourite nail polish for summer?
I’m loving all coral shades at the moment! My new favourite nail obsession has got to be Incoco Nail Wraps (available from Wellness Warehouse). It’s long-lasting and incredibly easy to apply!

Favourite scent of the season?
I adore Daisy, by Marc Jacobs (Hot Pink Limited Edition). I received it for my birthday from my boss, Candice-Lee and I’m obsessed with it! I think it’s going to be my new summer fragrance.

What is your beauty secret or tip?
Before you put a bright shade of lipstick on, apply some lip balm to your lips and then blot to remove excess. This will make the colour of your lipstick feel more moisturizing, look brighter and seem more luscious. Try it – it works!

Yay! Thanks! StyleScoop is truly my favourite beauty/fashion/awesomeness blog!

BTW, I liked that you ask what other blogs these Beauty Gals read. I never knew so many existed! I also follow some of them now. 🙂
