When fashion and movies meet we are often blessed with some of the most beautiful creations. From Audrey’s Givenchy black number in Breakfast at Tiffany’s to that green dress Keira Knightley wore in Atonement to the threads that made Johnny Depp Captain Jack Sparrow, Hollywood’s most loved designs will be housed in one of the biggest exhibitions.
Hollywood Costume was developed by guest curator Deboarah Nadoolman Landis. Her passion and love for costume design will see over 100 iconic costumes housed in the showcase at the V&A. The exhibition will be split up into three sections. The first will give visitors an insight into the life of a costume designer; the second will look at the relationship between the film’s costume designer and the creative team behind a movie; and the last section, which is no doubt going to be the most popular will be a gallery filled with Hollywood’s favourite outfits.
The exhibition isn’t just another celebration of cinema style though. Hollywood Costume will still feature the favourites such as Judy Garland’s gingham dress from The Wizard of Oz and the Deborah Scott-designed dress Kate Winslet wore in Titantic but it won’t just focus on the fancy. You can also expect to see Harry Potter’s Gryffindor uniform, Brad Pitt’s thrift-store ensemble from Fight Club and costumes from this year’s Dark Knight.
