This weekend was fun, fun, fun! I was lucky to get a VIP invite to the event of the year… The Brutal Fruit Glam Camp! For the past couple of months everyone has been talking about it, tweeting about it and hoping to get entrance to this two day, by-invitation-only event.
Think five star glamping, five star food, rubbing shoulders with celebs, drinking loads of Brutal Fruit and attending workshops to help you get your glam on! It’s every fashionista’s dream day out in Africa!
I was one of the first Glampers to arrive. In fact, I think I was the very first; flying in to Lanseria at 9am and only checking into the camp at 4pm. While I wasn’t allowed into the camp site until it officially opened, I got to sit with the camp organisers and get a real behind the scenes look at the amount of work that went into this event.
On arrival at the camp site which was at Casalinga in Muldersdrift, my first lot of buddies was a group of four fab Cape Town gals who won VIP tickets. Their overnight bags were tiny! My Tumi on the other hand, was packed to the max! A girl’s gotta have options you know!
Thankfully Brutal Fruit thought of everything and they even had wheel barrows and camp masters to wheel them, so carrying my big bag around was not a schlep! My only regret – not bringing my wellies! It rained all Friday day, all Friday night and being a Durban gal, I came “prepared” with open toe sandals – clever! Luckily Saturday, the day of the Glam Camp was a sunny, gorgeous day.
The VIP’s each had their own private, five star tent, complete with your own bed, your own shower, your own loo and even a dressing room so that you can get ready in style. Campers who came with a buddy shared a tent. Each tent was beautifully decorated and had everything you need including branded toiletries, slippers and a goodie bag filled with vouchers, beauty goodies and discounts to enjoy.
There were also a number of “styling stations” where you could go over and style your hair, do your make-up and gossip with other Glampers!
After settling in , glampers gathered around the camp fire and chatted. It was great fun and I got to meet the lovely team from Brutal Fruit; Meenal, Camilla (my new style icon – watch this space) and Carla. I chilled with Toolz and DylanJack from Brand Ambassadors, the talented and lovely Tamara Dey and Ziggy the video dude in his cool “Feiyue” shoes.
Not the greatest picture, but it’s the only one I managed on my Blackberry. Don’t they all look stylin in their uber glam ponchos? Oh and FYI, Tamara has a blanket, not because she’s cold – as she mentioned a few times – but to protect her suede boots! Ahh the love for shoes!
That night we were treated to fabulous food and fabulous entertainment. Oh, and there was also a fabulous selection of Plum shoes on display! I got to meet and hang with Melissa from @CosmopolitanSA, @Roxyburger, @GertJohan and @Lucycant_dance – fun times! We spent the evening chatting, drinking Brutal Fruit and talking about everything from books to television to ballet. There was of course, some mention of cool places to shop online and Camilla making me very envious with stories of her New York Trip and her new Louboutin’s.
Fast forward to Saturday, the Glam Camp venue looked amazing! The decor was out of this world and the peeps at Brutal Fruit really outdid themselves! From the sparkling chandeliers to pink velour benches, to the haystack seats (that were covered in plastic, so no poking hay into your legs) to the pink spray painted tyers that were used as table bases.
We were treated to a fashion show, hosted by the uber glam Poppy Ntshongwana and Leigh Toselli. After that, lunch time, which came in the form of individually wrapped and branded sandwiches, salad tubs and an endless supply of Brutal Fruit. I tried Brutal Fruit slush for the first time! MMMM! Afterwards we hopped from workshop to workshop, including a de-clutter workshop, a beauty and hair workshop and loads more, but they are the only two I went to.
Sadly I had to leave before the event ended to catch a plane back to Durbs. But I had an awesome time and would just like to thank the fab peeps over at Brutal Fruit and Brand Ambassadors for having me there!
