If you’re looking for a good show you can always count on Uncle Karl. Not only do his designs impress but his runway settings are enough for you to browse the web for pictures. This year’s Fall/Winter runway show was no different. Alicia Keys, Katy Perry and Poppy Delevingne were all in attendance at Chanel’s Paris Fashion week where Karl Lagerfeld created a snowy white cave catwalk. The centre of the runway housed a larger-than-life crystal set. The crystals and embellishments also formed part of the collection as models walked the show with iced eyebrows and metallic pieces.
One of our other favourite Chanel sets have to be last year’s apocalyptic setting. The show started with a drawbridge opening at either end of the runway providing light amid the smouldering walkway of charcoal and black rock.
In 2010, Chanel took inspiration from global warming which was and still is big news. His ready-to-wear show saw models walk out in fur-covered dresses, boots and hats and one or two Yeti appearances. The biggest ‘splash’ at the show was the monumental iceberg Lagerfeld had specially commissioned.
Chanel’s Couture 2010 show proved Karl could outdo anyone. Even himself. In place of the iceberg, stood a 12m golden lion clutching a pearl in its paw. Models did their thing in and around the lion and some male models accessorized their outfits with lion headdresses.
