Just when you thought Louis Vuitton was all about understated elegance, they throw you a curve ball, reminding the world that Louis Vuitton is still at the cutting edge of fashion design and innovation.
Louis Vuitton recently collaborated with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, “the Princess of Polka Dots”, to create an exciting collection of gone dotty handbags, shoes, accessories, wallets, diary folios, trendy scarves and snoods.
The collection launched globally this week, with the first viewing at a preview dinner on the 10th July at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Present were Sofia Coppola, Margherita Missoni and Diane Kruger, to mention a few.
Louis Vuitton Artist Director, Marc Jabocs is a long time fan of the japanese artist’s sculptures and paintings, and through this collection, pays tribute to his great admiration for Yayoi Kusama, creating pieces that interpret her most emblematic artworks.
“The obsessive character and the innocence of her artwork touch me, she succeeds in sharing her vision of the world with us” said Jacobs. The admiration is mutual, and Kusama, who has profound respect for Marc’s creativity, has a photo of their encounter hanging in the Kusama Studio in Toyko.
