A change in seasons calls for a change in footwear, and ladies we’re going back to flats. Loafers, brogues, creepers, slippers, ballet pumps in metallic, sequins, studs, patent leather, velvet, you name it – you’re going to love being grounded this season.
Personally I love flats. Loafers and brogues are great finishes for the boy-girl trend, with trouser suits making a big come back for autumn/winter. And since it is boy-girl you can have fun with this trend, taming down tailoring with a pair of metallic creepers or leopard print slipper pumps. Brogues worn with ankle socks give a classic, yet cute twist to dresses and rolled up skinny jeans – look to Alexa Chung and Chloe Sevigny for inspiration.
Slipper shoes have been, and still are, a huge high street trend here in London. Just like those battered Con’s you’ve had for the last five years, they’re just a good staple for your wardrobe. Slippers and ballet flats are great for the boardroom when worn with a drain-pipe trouser blazer combo, or with jeans and a sheer shirt for a chic weekend look. I’ve discovered so many looks with my studded leopard print pair.
For stiletto queens, I know it’s difficult to get your head around flats, but hopefully I’ve given you a few ways that makes swapping out those heels seem not so bad.
