Hot off the London Fashion Week runway is the messy plait trend. Spotted on the runways of Holly Fulton, Todd Lynn, Mark Fast and Maria Grachvogel, braids are going to be the it hairstyle for spring/summer 2013.
Toni and Guy, the official hair stylists at LFW, used texturising spray, teasing combs and snag free elastics to create undone braids. The messier the better, so use texturising spray to build volume into hair before braiding.
Teasing combs are great for pulling out strands and giving a rough texture. Incorporate multiple plaits, loosening with your fingers to make fishtails fatter.
Head over to Pinterest for tutorials on how to create a fish-braid – it looks tricky, but it’s so so easy once you get the hang of it. All you do is separate hair into two pieces (as you do for a plait, except in twos, not threes), pull a strand from the outer edge of one section, wrap it over to the other side, and repeat, alternating from each piece.
