What’s In My Makeup Bag

stylescoop-inside-my-makeup-bag

Being a beauty blogger, I get to try out loads of makeup! My favourites and the products that I carry with me, change all the time.

For the moment, here’s a peek at what’s currently inside my makeup bag…

These are the products I carry with me, inside my handbag. It’s my basic “touch up” stuff, and products that I like to keep on hand for a quick fix!

YSL Touche Eclat

A great little product that is ideal for your handbag. Since learning how to use this product correctly, I’ve been hooked on it.

Chanel Volume De Chanel Mascara

My fave mascara of the moment is Volume De Chanel Mascara. Since it launched in SA in May this year, it’s been my go to mascara. For me it’s ideal because it checks all my mascara must-have boxes! It makes my lashes look thicker and pulls them out nicely, making them longer. I also really like the formulation because it goes on and stays on. No smudging or running!

Real Techniques Buffing Brush

This is one of my top seven make-up brushes for your face and I have yet to find one that I love as much as my Real Techniques Buffing Brush. I use it to apply my MAC Mineralize Skinfinish powder and find that it gives my skin a flawless, glowy effect that I love.

MAC Kohl Pencil in “Teddy”

This is my go to eye-liner for the entire eye! It’s the most gorgeous shade of golden brown that compliments pretty much any eye colour. It’s an absolute MUST for any makeup bag! I love using it to rim my eye’s without looking made up.

Inglot Kohl Pencil 01

I’ve used a lot of black kohl pencils over the years, but I am totally smitten with this one from Inglot. It has amazing texture and fabulous blendability. I use it when I want to define my upper eye lids, and then use a brush or my pinky finger to smudge over it. It lasts all day and the pencil doesn’t break off as you apply it.

Lancome Lip Contour Pencil in “Beige Noisette”

To line my lips I love this pencil. The colour is just right for me and I feel it looks more natural than drawn on. Plus the little brush on the other end comes in handy.

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish

I’m not the biggest fan of powder, but I really like this one. I apply it more like you’d apply contour (cheekbones, forehead, chin and nose) rather than applying it to my entire face.

My shade is Medium Dark and I apply it with my Real Techniques buffing brush. I’ve found one of the most effective ways to use this powder is to buff it into the skin, rather than dust it on and the RT Buffing Brush works like a dream!

Chanel Cream Blush in “Presage”

I love, love, love cream blush. I love the glowy, perky effect that these types of blushes give my skin. I especially love this one from Chanel in Presage, from their Autumn 2013 Makeup Collection. It goes on like cream, but stays on with a sheer powder-like finish.

To apply it, I like to dab it onto the apples of my cheeks with my ring my finger (which ensures that I don’t apply too much pressure, therefore applying just the right amount) and blending it in. It leaves my skin with just a pop of colour that looks natural and perky!

MAC Select Cover Up Concealer

I used to hate this concealer, but now it’s my favourite!

I keep it with me all the time for those “just in case” moments. It has amazing coverage and the colour, NW30 is a perfect match for me! In MAC foundations I use NC37-40, and although this concealer is a different tone, when it comes to covering up, it works like a dream (with my NC foundation) to correct my skin tone.

It’s small, love the screw on lid (perfect for my handbag) and it lasts forever!

Inglot Sleeks Cream in 102

I don’t know why, but yes, I do need to carry “so many” lip products! I have an addiction, what can I say?!

I really love the Inglot Sleeks Cream in 102 from their Hawaiian Bar Collection. It’s a beautiful shade of coral that makes my lips feel amazing, while giving them fab colour! I also really love the smell!

Rimmel Apocalips in “Celestial”

The Apocalips lipgloss from Rimmel is my absolute fave lipgloss of all time! Well, so far at least 🙂

I love everything about it; from the amazing texture, to the applicator. From the high colour intensity, to the actual colour (this one is like a mauve/ pink that matches my lips perfectly). I even love how it looks when the colour fades off.

This range of lippies was first introduced to us locally in April 2013 and is available a range of other beautiful colours as well.

Stila Convertible Colour in “Peony”

Another fab, fab, fab product! If I had to pick just one “beauty product” to keep on me, Stila Convertible Colour would probably be it!

It works wonderfully as a blush, and doubles up as a lip tint. Texture wise, when compared to my Chanel Cream Blush, it has a little bit of tack, which is ideal for lips, but not so tacky that it makes your lips or cheeks feel sticky.

It comes in a wide range of colours and I love the super flat compact that also has a mirror inside. Also love how each colour is matched to it’s container – so let’s say you had the whole collection, you’d be able to find the one you were looking for quickly!

MAC Cream Colour Base in “Shell”

This product is ahhh-mazing! I’m just about out, but have been using this one for a very long time and it’s lasted wonderfully! I love using it to add more “glow” to my skin and generally apply it to the centre of my forehead (which has helped to diffuse my pigmentation scars), brow-bone and the tops of my cheeks. It also works great as a highlighter for the cupids bow.

YSL ROUGE PUR COUTURE in “Rose Libertin”

Like most girls, I have my days. Some days I prefer gloss, other’s I like lipstick.

One of my fave colours of the moment is YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in Rose Libertin (26). It’s from their Spring 2011 collection and is one of my all-time favourite pinks. It’s intense and bright without looking cheap-an-nasty (like a lot of bright pinks tend to do).

It also feels fab, because it’s YSL Darhling!

Stila Colour Balm Lipstick in “Gabrielle”

Instead of carrying your average lip balm, I prefer to keep my Stila Colour Balm on me instead. It’s like a lip balm with the added benefit of colour. It feels fabulous on the lips and I love the tingling peppermint effect. Plus the mirror at the top of lipstick case comes in handy too.

MAC Lipstick in “Blankety”

Although the shade of my MAC Blankety is somewhat identical to my Stila Colour Balm Lipstick, for some reason I still have both in my makeup bag at the moment!

I picked up this shade a few months ago when I returned six of my empty MAC products and received a free lip stick. I do tend to like the same type of colours, so it’s no wonder that I picked a shade similar to what I’ve already got.

Nonetheless, I love it and find that it’s a great nude.

Chanel Sharpener

Nothing worse than wanting to use your eye liner (or lipliner) and it’s blunt! For those “just in case” moments, I keep a cute and compact Chanel sharpener with me that works beautifully.

For my makeup bag, I am currently using this beautiful Lou Harvey cosmetics bag in the pattern “Pixel Stripe”

Now, please! Help me out a bit here, so that I don’t feel like a total makeup hoarder… how many products do you carry with you in your makeup bag? And which ones stand out for you?

If you have the time, I’d love to hear the full contents of your makeup bag, so start sharing 🙂

I love MAC’s Tedddy, it’s probably my favourite kohl pencil. I have the Stila Convertible Color in Lilium (it’s pretty close to Peony) and it makes for a great cream blush, was def one of my faves during these past winter months.

The Rimmel Apocalips have received both good and bad reviews online, so I’ve been hesitant to buy one. I’ll perhaps give it a go since you like it so much now. 🙂

      Isn’t Teddy just the best?!

I haven’t tried out the Lilium shade but will look out for it. The other shades I tried were Gladiola and Poppy.

As for Apocalips, you must definitely try it! I love it. Im not a huge fan of the shades that have shimmer in them – I prefer the more solid colours. I got to try out all ten and two have made it into my makeup collection… Celestial and Phenomenon. Phenomenon is more of a true nude, but defs requires a tan to pull it off.

If you’re interested to have a look at the full collection and my thoughts, check out this link: http://www.stylescoop.co.za/2013/03/13/rimmel-apocalips-beauty-review/

    Hi Dimi
Great selection of products. Where did you get the Presage blush? I have been searching everywhere 🙁

Thanks Princessnoo! It was sent to me by Chanel.
I do know that a lot of people are battling to find that colour in store. I’m told by Chanel’s PR that it was one of the colours delayed in France on route to SA.
Apparently they should be here this week, so keep an eye out. Also bear in mind that there will prob be waiting lists, so I suggest making friends at every single Chanel counter 🙂

It’s such a fabulous colour and product, totally worth the wait.

I hope you find one xx
