The days are ticking by! Can you believe we’re already in October?! Which means, we’re getting closer and closer to Summer!
Now that you’re all excited, let me bring you back to reality…
How’s your summer wardrobe looking?
Bleh? Well fear not, because I’ve got the inside scoop for this summer’s Wardrobe Heroes from River Island
In other words, what you NEED to have in your wardrobe this summer!
1. The Kimono
From the Greek word… (only joking!) Seriously gals, if there is one item, just one, that you add to your summer wardrobe this year, make it a stand out printed Kimono from River Island.
Let me just give you a little piece of advice. Get in there quick, and if you see the kimono of your dreams, don’t let it out of your sight! It will be gone before you have a chance to turn around and make your final decision.
These babies are selling like hot cakes, I promise! Just grab it (pay for it obviously) and then go out and celebrate in it because it will be your best purchase ever!
There are tons of ways to wear a Kimono and this is definitely an investment piece! You can wear it day, night, summer, spring, autumn and even winter (only for the brave).
My Favourite is the first one – the Black Floral Kimono (R829). It’s absolutely gorgeous! I’d totally wear it with little denim shorts, converse and a boho fringed top. Festival look – nailed!
The Tropical Sheer Kimono (R979) is another great, versatile piece and a perfect ‘lil summer jacket’, while the Tasselled Kimono (R779) would make any outfit look on trend, right now!
2. The Playsuit
Rompers, jump suits, play suits… call them what you will, but one thing’s for certain, you can’t go into summer this season without at least one slip-on-and-go playsuit.
The beauty about playsuits is that they can be worn for a casual lunch, a trip to the beach or dressed up with heels, accessories and a cute clutch for a sizzling night time affair.
It makes life easier when you’re packing for your December trip to Durbs.
One item, so many possibilites!
Save on this cute ‘lil print playsuit (R379) or step out in absolute style with a more sophisticated, more elegant and certainly more “WOW” blue scarf print playsuit (R879). Thow on a black blazer and some killer heels and you’re ready to rock the night!
3. The Kaftan
Beachwear is no longer just for the beach! If playsuits taught us anything, it’s that lounge wear can look so hot, anywhere! Same applies to the kaftan. It’s the coolest coverup, and doubles up as an “I’m so cool” little shirt!
Love the embellished kaftan (R629) but the floral contrast kaftan (R549) has my name written all over it!
4. The Mega Platform
I really wasn’t excited about summer shoes after what I had seen on the Streets of London in July. But then, along came these beauts, babes, totally wowzers from River Island.
The retro inspired peep-toe platform (R1199) is big (both in height and style) and they are pretty comfy too!
These some of the styles in store now, but I also spotted a totally cool floral pair this weekend.
5. The High Waisted Shorts
The 70’s were no doubt the coolest of the decades! The festivals, the hippy (love the hippy), the beards, the shoes, the round sunglasses, the high waisted shorts! Well they are all coming back!
Thankfully we don’t have to do crazy things like jump in water to fit into skin tight denims these days. We have stretch denim and it’s one of fashions’ best inventions!
Wear your shorts high waisted and sleek like these Light Acid Wash shorts (R599) or get with the times and embrace the distress-ion with these Mid-Wash Ripped shorts (R579).
Now if only I had been blessed with long, lean legs, I’d wear these and never take them off!

River Island is currently only available the the flaship store in Rosebank Mall, but pretty soon, you can find RI at Brooklyn Mall in November, and Canal Walk in December.
River Island will also be available at Edgars stores in Gateway, Tygervalley, Canal Walk and Menlyn from December.
