RED – it’s more than just a colour! Red is a magical, intense, exciting colour that never ceases to attract, whether it’s Christmas red or Valentine’s day red hearts and red, red roses… or red Autumn leaves!

A red rose symbolizes true love and romance. I just love the red roses in my garden. Red grapes, red wine, ruby red jewelry – red carnations, red, red……… luscious and dynamic.

The little red ladybug is believed to bring good luck and fortune. But did you know that bees can’t see red as a colour? According to the International Bee Research Association many insects cannot see red, making it a good colour to wear when working in the garden.

Red means joy, strength, energy, beauty and splendour.

Does your face look pale, puffy and petulant? On winter days like that, forget about green or blue tones – red is the colour that will bring colour to your cheeks and face. Feeling down in the dumbs? Get a grip on things! Go all the way and wear red from top to toe. Just a touch of red is simply not enough. Dark tones of warm red will automatically bring life to you face, just as red flowers will immediately bring colour to your garden. Red is the colour that determines the mood, I’m sure.

Women have been colouring their hair red since the discovery of henna. And yes, henna comes from a flowering small tree. Henna is used since antiquity to dye skin, hair and fingernails RED. Many famous actresses, like Rita Hayworth, can probably thank their auburn hair as much as their lucky stars for their enormous successes. Red, famous and sensuous! Who said you can’t have everything?

All things bright and beautiful red have their price – as you probably well know, red is also a warning sign, a danger signal and a fear factor – Stop for red lights. Blood. In any case, whether negative or positive, you just can’t ignore red. Red dominates all areas of our life, or so it seems.

What inspired me to write about red? Red is a very energetic and beneficial colour. To me, it’s the colour of life. Therefor, I love RED! AND this winter I’ll wear RED!

Always maroon in winter makes me feel warm… strange but true lol! Although I have heard that wearing yellow displays warmth and it also has healing powers like the sun. It’s all in the mind you are what you wear.

Winter is a fashionable and quite a sexy season. Think, sipping on hot chocolate by the fireplace with a sexy Ryan Gosling lookalike. Ok, back to reality and the prospect of wearing a dreaded onesie. This is reserved for mums. Not a pretty sight. I say, defy that norm. Hello RED. This Winter, RED is my colour of choice. You will find this mum(of the furry kind too) dressed to the nines in a red trench coat, red lipstick, a red pashmina and red leather gloves. ooh la la! talk about heating things up! Red is such a bold colour and adds that va va boom to any drab day. I love that red makes me feel sexy. So this Winter, I am chucking away that dreaded onesie in favour of silk pyjamas in the hue red of course:) I will certainly be sipping on a REd latte by the fireplace with my Ryan Gosling lookalike:)

Maroon is a winter favourite for me. It reminds me of red wine, which is another winter favourite 🙂 It’s such a warm, deep colour. Wearing maroon makes me feel sophisticated, noticeable and powerful and when paired with black, super sleek. nicolettecoetzee@yahoo.com

Winter automatically brings my black and grey to the front of the cupboard. I have however found a new favourite winter colour … NAVY! I have found that this colour is so versatile yet not so sombre. And to avoid looking like the winter clouds, I do add pops of colour such as orange, red and this season it will be pastel pink which lifts my mood and brings my face to life.

rehana seedat email: dseedat@telkomsa.net I will be wearing The burgundy color this winter because it is is elegant, playful and a colour that sutis me. And in this cold cloudy days it is a must-have in my closet. I can wear it in different occasions and on different ways and combinations. If I wear a burgundy dress or tunic I can add a scarf, jacket or bolero and instantly have my ready winter-look. I can mix that color with dark neutral colors like black, gray and navy blue. For the office-looks I can wear burgundy shirt or sweater under dark suit, or if I wear a burgundy skirt, I would wear it with black shirt. This beautiful color is great choice for a cocktail dress, but it that case, focus on the colors to be more on the tone of blue, purple shades. For casual daily looks I can choose any variation on the color that I like, and add some pattern or print. What ever I choose you would look great and trendy in this beautiful warm color.
