5 Essential Girly Items You Need on A Game Drive

If you’re planning a little bush getaway this summer, or anytime really, I’ve nailed down a few of my best “On-Landy” beauty essentials that are perfect to take along with you on your game drive experience.

I like to pack all my beauty essentials into a little cosmetics bag that I can just throw into my camera back pack. That way, I know that I have everything I need during the game drive, or as the rest of the world calls it, a Safari!

Dettol Hygiene Fresh Wipes

If you ever needed wet wipes more, it would be on a game drive! Driving around the bush is one dusty experience, and I promise you, you will need a few packs of these to see you through your trip if you’re planning more than one drive!

Not only will you find so many uses for them (including; wiping the bug off your sunglasses, or wiping down your bottle of Savanna Dry) but you’ll be the star of your game drive crew – as everyone will smile and ask you nicely if they can have one too!

I like the new Dettol Personal Care Wipes because they are nice and compact and they get rid of 99.9% of germs… a lot of those germs are lurking in the great outdoors! Since they are pre-moisturized, I can skip packing a hand cream for the drive, since they offer decent moisturization for my hands, enough to ensure I enjoy the 3-4 hour game drive.

Tabard Insect Repellant Stick

Insect repellants are a must for any game drive or bush experience! I always take a big spray can of Tabard or Peaceful Sleep along on our bush adventures and I spray it when we chill around the fireplace, before our game drives and before bed.

Mozzies love me, so I make sure I’m even more prepared when we’re out on a game drive, and I pack a Tabard Stick just in case. It’s compact and works instantly while remaining effective for up to 8 hours. This means, should our game drive go on longer than expected – I know I’m covered!

Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1

Whether it’s a day or night game drive, or whether it’s summer or winter, having a lip balm on your game drive is an absolute essential and I love Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1. They come in a bunch of variants, my favourite being the Cranberry one because it smells delish and leaves my lips feeling b-e-a-utiful!

They are formulated with ingredients that soothe your lips, including Squalane, Lanolin and Sweet Almond Oil, as well as Vitamins A and E, but the reason I chose the Kiehl’s one for my game drives is because I love the texture and even more so, because of the packaging.

Number one, you don’t have to stick your grubby paws into a pot to get the product out, and number two, when your friend looks over at you with cracked lips and puppy eyes, you don’t have to feel bad about letting her use it. I’m super pedantic about using anyone else’s lip products on my own lips and the same goes for them using mine.

The Kiehl’s Lip Balm comes in a tube, but unlike traditional tube balms, you don’t apply it straight onto your lips. You simply dispense a tiny amount straight onto your finger, and then apply it on your lips with your finger, which means less chance of germs transferring between the applicator and your lips.

Texture wise, I LOVE this balm! It reminds me a teeny bit of Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, only lighter. 8 Hour is a little too thick and filmy for my lips, but Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 is perfect and leaves my lips feeling loved.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Sun Defense Stick

This Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Sun Stick is such a handy little gem of a product that has saved my skin more than once. When you leave home in a rush and forget your sun protection, or you go out in the rain only for the weather to change into full on sunshine – having this little guy on hand is a god send.

It’s packed with SPF 50 in a highly concentrated stick that is easy to target the face, nose, lips and ears, or any other areas you wan’t to keep from burning, and you can even blend it out to make it go further on your body. Let’s say you forget to put sunscreen on your arms when you head at out 6am for your game drive, only to discover that by 8 am you’re cooking!

Furthermore, it is oil free, light weight and it holds its sun protection factor after 40 minutes of perspiring.

Dettol Instant Hand Sanitizer

Another must have game drive essential is a mini hand sanitizer. When you stop for sundownders and snacks in the middle of the bush, there’s nothing more refreshing than being able to wash your hands and get the feeling of water cleansing the dirt off your skin.

I usually keep a bottle of Dettol Instant Hand Sanitizer with me all the time, including in my handbag, car, gym bag etc since it’s an all round goodie to ensure you’re always able to wash your hands even when there isn’t water nearby. Plus it’s super compact, making it easy to take with you anywhere.

Next week, I’ll share my top game drive/ safari style accessories, so stay tuned if you’re planning on venturing out into the bush.
