Full Spectrum

If you’ve been wanting to get your hands on the new FULL SPECTRUM eye shadow palette from Urban Decay, but you’ve been a little afraid, fear not as I am here to show you just why you need this palette in your life.

If you’re not a makeup person, then you probably wont like this palette. Then again, if you aren’t a makeup person, you probably wont like many palettes either! If you are a makeup person however, then you will love it – even if you don’t particularly gravitate towards bold, colourful looks, you will still use this palette and you will most likely fall in love with it.

YES this palette is a rainbow of colour (as the name suggests, FULL SPECTRUM), but it really doesn’t mean you have to use every colour in your box all at once. Sure you can create bold, out there and really striking looks for special events with this palette, but it’s just as handy to create every day looks as well.

Don’t let the bright variety scare you off.

The thing you need to understand about the Urban Decay FULL SPECTRUM palette, is that it is a tool to help you get creative. Just like an artist, a painter for instance, has every colour under the sun at his/her disposal, it doesn’t mean that they are going to create cartoons just because they have a colourful selection to play with.

Know what I mean?

With that out of the way, you can use this palette for just about every look under the sun – quite literally! What you won’t get, is an all natural look comprising of skin toned shades like nude, beige and brown. You will however, have the ability to create so many variations of very wearable eye makeup looks that it will often blow your mind.

While I was tempted to create a bold striking look with this palette – because why not? – I decided to create a toned down, wearable look instead to show you gals that this palette can do that just as well.

I do love a purple shadow, I like how it brings out the green in my eyes, yet with more makeup than any single person needs, I still didn’t have a purple selection that I really loved until this palette!

So I tried out the trio of purples in the Full Spectrum Palette and came up with this easy, slightly smoked out purple look…

See, nothing too hectic! I could totally wear this look during the day and while there is colour, the look is no where near over the top and I certainly don’t feel like I need to be going out to a fancy dress to wear it.

I used Faded, Delirious and Sketch. Faded towards the inner corner, Delirious on the lid and Sketch on the outer corners and blended into my crease. Then, I added a bold shade, Gossip (that hot, hot pink) very subtly over my crease to add a bit of dimension and finish off the look.

What do you think?

Totally wearable am I right?

I’ve also played around with a couple of other looks and have actually been reaching for this palette daily. If you want to create a very wearable makeup looks, I’d suggest trying these combos;

  • Goldmine (metallic yellow gold) with Hundred (deep metallic forest green)
  • Mean (bright lime green) with Hatter (vibrant green with tonal micro-sparkle)
  • Metamorphosis (periwinkle blue) with Minx (deep navy) and add a pop of inner eye sparkle with a touch of Iced (oyster silver with shimmer)
  • Paranoia (soft metallic pink) with Alchemy (deep fuchsia) – add dimension with Gossip (bright metallic pink)
  • Iced (oyster silver) with Platonic (black matte)
  • Jones (metallic orange) with Size (bright metallic coral) and Warning (deep metallic copper)

My Colour Tip:

When working with colourful shades on the lid, one sure fire way to bring the look together is to always rim your waterline with black liner and load up on that mascara. It just helps to make the look pop and not look as though it’s floating.

Often times when I’m in the middle of creating a colourful eye shadow look, I think there is no way this is going to work, and then I add my magic liner and mascara and viola!

Another firm favourite, is to finish off the eye with slick, jet black liquid lines.

Don’t be afraid and remember to have fun. That is after all, what make up is all about! An expression and an outlet to express your mood, and the best part is that you can just wipe it off at the end of the day.

So I encourage you girls to step out of your comfort zone. Explore colour – enjoy colour – have fun with your makeup and what better way to do it than with this beautiful palette?
