From Runway to Rail! SA Fashion Week opened last week; showcasing an exclusive capsule collection collection where Woolworths collaborated with eight local designers to bring us mere mortals designer, South African items at an affordable price tag.

I haven’t been this excited about a designer capsule collection in quite some time and there were more than a few items that stole my heart as they came down the runway! Pieces from Rich Mnisi, Thebe Magugu, AKJP, Pichulik, Maria McCloy, Sol-Sol, Selfi and Young & Lazy.

The great thing about this collection is that you can shop it at Woolworths, making it easy for you to own a piece of South African, designer fashion for your winter wardrobe.

When this gorgeous piece by Rich Mnisi came down the runway, I was in awe! The flattering silhouette of his Zipped Tunic (R1099,00) is so crisp, chic and elegant and it will sure turn heads! Personally, I’m obsessed with the retro styled flared sleeves.

Rich Mnisi’s aesthetic draws on his interest in old and new pop culture. With a global outlook, Mnisi finds ways to remix modern African heritage to tell unique stories of then, now and soon. His signature silhouettes are driven by attention to design and craftsmanship.

I also loved Rich Mnisi’s Crepe Jumpsuit (R1499.00) and his gorgeous rust Wrap Wrap Dress (R1399.00).

Another item I need in my life is this Thebe Magugu baby blue shirt dress (R1099.00). Again, loooooving the sleeve detail and mandarin style collar with cute cut outs on the collar bone.

Kimberley-born Thebe Magugu’s sleek, forward-looking design intersects with motifs from our continent’s past. The end result is smart, multifaceted clothes for modern women. His debut collection is a cool mix of playful yet serious, high fashion yet accessible, feminine yet masculine.

This navy blue Thebe Magugu Coat (R1799.00) is a thing of beauty! Love the oversized lapel that gives this coat amazing structure! Also loving his Midi Skirt (R1099.00) that has been crafted from stretchy crepe de chine and pressed with a myriad of pleats.

I apologise for the poor quality of this pic, but it’s the best I could do with all the excitement! I can’t stop thinking about this gorgeous Thebe Magugu olive green coat (with a beautiful orange rope detail at the back)! He also had a blue and white stripe shirt that was amazing!

Beautiful, handcrafted African statement pieces from Pichulik are also part of this capsule collection and I’m loving this Pichulik Mali Necklace (R699.00). The model is wearing an outfit by Maria McCloy.

Designed and handcrafted by a dynamic team of women in Cape Town, Pichulik is an award-winning accessories label by Katherine-Mary Pichulik. Pichulik is inspired by the intimate relationship women have with jewellery and by travels to exotic destinations like Turkey, Granada and Morocco.

Adriaan Kuiters and Jody Paulsen from the designer label AKJP and the team of 4 highly skilled woman at SELFI are also part of this capsule collection and bring a fun, funky and colourful element to the collection.

For the guys, there’s also some loving thanks to collection by Sol-Sol and Young & Lazy.
Like this Sol-Sol Chore Jacket (1099.00) and this Young & Lazy Print Cotton Hoodie (R799.00).
