Check out what our ELLE Style in the City competition winner, Danielle Pannack had to say about the event. Danielle won tickets by entering on StyleScoop.co.za and got the star treatment – right in the front row!
As I make my way onto the red carpet into the searing heat, I see beautiful white billowing Bedouin tents and scores of people. Fashion has that effect on people, we go into a frenzy for it and this type of show definitely brings all the fashionistas out of their wardrobe closets!

I’m at the Style in the City fashion event. A four day extravaganza of fashion, beauty, runway shows and tips from fashion experts Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine, which is being held on the Breakwater rooftop at the Waterfront (Cape Town).
How did I get here, you might ask? I was the lucky winner of the Stylescoop competition and won not one but two tickets to the event!
Trinny and Susannah are the famous pair from the equally famous TV show ‘What not to Wear’ and have written scores of books on how women, no matter what your age or size, can dress well, according to your shape, coloring and budget. They have descended on SA shores to show us South African women what we’re doing wrong and how they can help.
I get amazing tickets and am sitting right in front, with my whole nose in my goodie bag. Hair straightener, moisturiser samples, liqueur, an Elle mag and Clinique makeup are just some of the goodies that I receive. Elle’s editor Jackie Burger takes to the stage and introduces the show. And as the lights go down the show begins.

Elle has taken 14 top South African designers and used some pieces from their collections to identity the top trends for this summer season. I see romance from David Tlale in white ruffles and black bows, glamorous evening wear from Kluk CGDT with a train of brown feathers and bright bold cobalt blues from Tart.
Each piece is beautifully made and constructed, and depicts what we can look forward to this season in stores. Other designers who showcase their designs are Stefania Morland, Misfit and Gavin Rajah to name a few. What is definitely needed this season for any fashionista’s wardrobe is a little cocktail dress in a bright colour that pops and if it’s one-shouldered, even better.

After this glorious show, Trinny and Susannah appear. They chat to us like old friends, like we haven’t seen each other in ages. And then they pounce. Some 6 lucky or unlucky ladies, whichever way you choose to look at it, are chosen for a makeover. We are told what they are doing wrong, much to the amusement of us and the horror of them. Bras are hiked up, pants are sucked in, and tops are removed, to reveal their real beauty, what they have been hiding. The transformations are amazing, with the show ending on this high note.

Next we are off to the Style Studio and Pamper Parlour. Each tent is filled with retailers and beauty experts to offer advice and for you to buy as much goodies to your heart’s content. From Luella shoes, to getting your bra size right at Storm in a G cup, to tasting the yummy smoothies at G I Lean and trying on the fab jewellery at Cozabella, it’s all there for the taking. The Pamper Parlour holds the beauty experts from Santuary Spa and Thai massage, and a full on nail bar and GHD hair studio. Needless to say, you couldn’t get me out of there!

And when sore feet where too much for us and the thirst became overwhelming, there was a Thirst bar to rest those tired tootsies and sip on a delectable cocktail.
All in all it was an absolutely indulgent and fabulous experience. I can’t wait for this summer to get here so I can get my hands on all those trendy summer fashions. So, when is the next one?

sounds faboosh.
