It’s that time of year again. Yes, time to don your swimming cossie and hit the beach or deck chair, and bare your flesh to the world. I agree it’s daunting, but there are an array of beach cover-ups and wraps to ease you into summer.
I’m going to skip over choosing bikinis and full-piece costumes, as most mags at this time of year publish articles about how to pick the best colour/shape/cut for your shape. Although there is some merit in their advice, I do think it pays to remember that a swimming costume is most likely made of lycra, or some other tight fitting fabric, and by its very nature is small, stretchy and leaves little to the imagination. No matter what colour or design you buy, you’ll still be revealing more of yourself in public than at any other time.
Apart from a healthy dose of self-confidence (great self-tan, huge killer shades, a glam straw sun hat and some beautiful, bejewelled sandals will work wonders here), a few fab beach wraps and cover-ups will do wonders for your bikini phobia. Find them in all shapes and sizes this summer. My favourite being some crazily bright beach dresses (full-length floaty numbers), and over-sized tees, that will work from the beach to the bar. Have a little fun in the sun, and remember, you are your own worst critic. Besides happy and smiley confident people are much nicer than those kill-joy nervous bikini-phobes ;-)
If all else fails order a round of cocktails in sublime colours and relieve yourself of reality a bit!
