I don’t know about you, but good hair days can make all the difference. They can lift your mood in an instant, and all you need is the right products to add va-va-volume to your locks.

My hair is dead straight, and to make matters worse – flat, so I’m sure you can imagine my excitement when I discovered these fabulous, five pre-styling products to help give my hair the lift it needs.

Start with a volume building shampoo

The shampoo you use can make all the difference. I have very fine hair and need a product that can give my hair a boost without weighing it down. Wella SP Volume Shampoo (R172) is fab-fab-fabulous. While it gently cleanses my hair it packs in added body, plus it contains hair strengthening components – something that is very vital with pin-straight hair that is easily damaged.

Mask it

Twice a  week I like to use the Wella Lifetex Volume Protein Mask (R147) on my hair. It provides my hair with a strengthening complex of nutrients (that also includes bamboo extract) without weighing down my locks.

Add a light conditioner

I recently gave up on conditioners. I found that they weighed my hair down too much, resulting in greasy roots all too often. Instead, I’ve traded in conditioners for the ghd Daily Conditioning Mist. It provides a lightweight conditioner that protects my hair without weighing it down.

Get fat hair

Another ghd favourite of mine is the ghd Fat Hair Lotion (R190). Just think of it as bodybuilding for hair. Worked into damp hair, it provides volume all over while keeps my hair super shiny and soft.

Get a lift

As I mentioned before my roots get greasy very quickly – which is as a result of having long, fine hair. So this product is really a saviour in my hair care regime. The ghd Uplift Spray (R190) gives my hair a lift right where I need it – at the root. Sprayed directly into the root on damp hair, this product gives great volume without any tell-tail signs of product.

Tips for great volume

While I’m no hair expert, I can speak from experience. If you want great hair, you have to give it great care! In addition, you simply cant just wash-and-go with your hair and expect it to look like you stepped out of a salon. Using a hair dryer on semi wet hair is a trick you can use to not only protect your hair, but get it looking gorgeous too. Also rememebr, with the ghd products, they have been designed for use with heat, so they will not only protect your locks while styling, but they also get the maximum benefit when used with heat.
