CHRISTMAS Q & A WITH MARIA SHARAPOVA
Q: Where will you be spending Christmas this year?
A: I always spend Christmas in LA; it’s a great opportunity to catch up with friends and relatives.

Q: So the end of the year is approaching again. Do you have any New Year resolutions?
A: This year I returned to the game after some time out with my shoulder injury. I had good tournaments at Warsaw, Roland Garros, Toronto and Tokyo and I want to build on that success going into 2010. So my New Year’s resolution is to win stay healthy.

Q: Where do you prefer to buy your Christmas presents?
A: I spend a lot of time travelling round the world playing in tournaments so I tend to buy presents for Christmas right at the last minute, but I have plenty of travelling time to put thought into getting people the right presents. I pick up on little comments if someone mentions something they like and will try to surprise them at Christmas.

Q: What is your Christmas Day outfit?
A: I tend to dress really casually on Christmas Day – it’s just nice to be able to relax with all my family and enjoy a great dinner at home

Q: Who is the hardest person to buy presents for?
A: I’d say my Dad is the hardest person to buy for – I think it’s probably the same for everyone I know. Dad’s just seem to have everything they need already so it’s always a challenge to think of something thoughtful and original for him, that he’d like

Q: What are you going to buy your mother this year?
A: I like to spend time with my family and think a spa day with my mother would be a great gift, as we can spend time together and get pampered. And she’d love it!

Q: What about a present for your team?
A: I like to pick out some fashionable clothes for my team – something unusual or different from what they would normally buy. I do my best to help jazz up their wardrobes!

Q: What do you really want for Christmas this year?
A: The best present I could wish for is anything that really surprises me.

Q: What’s the best Christmas present you ever got?
A: There isn’t one particular gift that stands out as the best but my favourite presents always come from my parents
