Did someone say NEW wardrobe…………..Yay!
By throwing out the items you no longer use (excess baggage), you’ll have more cupboard space for new clothes. Unfortunately, we’re not all blessed with Carey Bradshaw’s dream walk in cupboard. Organising and storing your items in the correct way helps your clothes, shoes and accessories last and look better for longer.
Organizers can double your wardrobe space. Invest in pull out shelves with dividers, plastic or wooden hangers, square wooden baskets with shelves and shoe boxes…. This will help you organise your wardrobe, making it easier to find items. In the meantime, here are some save and store wardrobe tips:
- Hang your shirts and blouses (which are shorter than pants and dresses) on one side. This will leave room below, where you can fit a wooden basket. You can use the basket to store belts and socks or other accessories. Don’t hang jerseys and sweaters because they will lose their shape – fold them and pack them away.
- Classify your drawers by deciding which items you use most and pack the drawers in descending order. Start with the items you use most (like underwear) on top. Drawers are perfect for smaller items such as lingerie, swimwear, sleepwear, socks and pantyhose. While you are re-organizing, throw away items that are in a shameful condition.
- Hang your jeans and trousers according to colour. Follow this same rule with your tops, while still keeping them separate. It will make it easier to find them. You’ll also be able to co-ordinate your tops and bottoms in different colours.
- The more expensive items, should be kept separate in a box or in tissue paper. You can also use labels to help you find them them. This storage tip will ensure your pricey pieces dont’ get handled too much and will also protect them from moths, insects and dust.
- Expensive shoes that aren’t worn too often should be put away in shoe bags or boxes. You get very nice see-through ones, which help to protect them dust or getting squashed. The shoes that you wear regularly, should be stored on shelves, and cleaned after use to minimise scuffing and damage.
- Protect your clothes with cedar balls – The are a natural insect detergent. For a fresh and natural aroma try lavender or eucalyptus pouches. Empty perfume bottles also do the trick.
To end off in Heidi Klum’s famous words: “As you all know in fashion, the one day you’re in and the next you’re out”
So if it is:
- Faded
- Permanently stained
- It’s ill fitting-too small or too large. *and you can’t get it tailored.
- Has lost its shape
- Has dated too much
Ditch it!!!!!!!!!!!
Give your wearable clothes that you don’t want or don’t use anymore to a Charity that will really appreciate it. The first steps to the new you goodwill and a new wardrobe…
Until next week!

Thanks for the wonderful advice Anja! I actually try to keep all my shoes in their original boxes, until I can save up enough to buy those gorgeous see through one!
I also like to hang my clothes by colour – its actually much easier to find stuff, so ladies, do yourselves a favour and re-arrange your cupboards. You won’t regret it!
