Well today is probably the worst day for me to start blogging about being a stylist. What a cool job you say? Oh no, not today. Trying to organize 4 shoots at once, everyone wanting your attention at the same time, suppliers letting you down, shoot dates changing after you’ve just prepared for them (and now must return everything back to stores and start again when the date is finalized).

It’s raining and I’m trying to prevent R4000 silk dresses from being drenched and I have heaps of magazine credit deadlines to tackle this evening, bar find locations last minute for free. Phew, did I eat today?!
A stylist’s life, I can sadly say, is not about cocktails parties, stiletto’s and free gifts. Unless your the Fashion Editor for Vogue of course. Comfy shoes and a sturdy car are usually the order of the day. You’ll soon be able to do all the major shopping centres with your eyes closed or find yourself in weird, wonderful and undiscovered places looking for a brass shower hear or rare antique vase.
In having that rant and getting it off my chest, (thanks for listening!) I must say, it really does beat that grey cubicle 9-5 desk job! No day is the same and each day brings on a different set of challenges, clients, places, clothing, props and faces. They say variety is the spice of life, well then styling is like a hot yet fragrant curry! :)
In my posts to come, I really will share the more fabulous and exciting times, the ins and outs to advertising and magazine shoots, photographers, models, make-up artists the works. Each adding it’s fragrant contribution to the delicious curry which is, the final campaign. That really is the best part of the job, flipping through a magazine and seeing your work. Here are some of the shoots I’ve styled.

Interesting!
How did you get into Styling?
Hey There.
Thanx for telling us the real deal aswell.
I was wondering where you work and what exactly it is you do?
Thanks D.*
Hi Kim
I was wondering how do you get bookings? Do you have an agent?
What is the most a stylist can be paid? what is the bracket range?
How would you advise to get myself out there.
thanks
