Going on Safari? Here’s 5 Things I’ve Learnt

Safari’s out in Africa are my favourite! I am a total bush baby and would quite easily trade a tropical paradise getaway for some bush time!

Having gone on a few epic Safari’s, I’ve learnt a lot that has helped me “get ready” for the next one! -October I’m counting down the days-.

Every time I travel, I always write a list of things to remember! Things like “bring extra mozzi spray – you will need it” and “don’t forget to pack a pair of boots next time” help when I’m packing or planning my next trip.

Out in Africa! My “Safari Outfit” and our Adventure in the Bush

I’ve just returned from the most incredible bush adventure! Four days out in Africa, getting up close and personal with all her beautiful creatures, just roaming around a few inches from the protection of our Landrover. Before our trip, I popped into Old Khaki (of course) to pick out some bush-ready, summer-ready and style savvy pieces and I couldn’t resist this gorgeous fringed Cardi. Isn’t it just the cutest summer cover-up? It was perfect for our evening game drives! Since I had bush veld on the brain, by pure stroke of luck and perfect timing, I also found this floppy bush hat while I was there, which was just the cherry on top! It will defs become my bush adventure staple from now on! I wore it on almost every game drive and it kept me cool, protected from the sun and thanks to the little drawstring I didn’t lose it. And the colour… perfecto! Look at that frrrrriiiinge! Obsessed! We had such a blast! This was part of our group racing to catch the lioness before she moved away on our last game drive evening. We were incredibly blessed to have seen it all… We spotted the entire big five entourage… Lions, Leopard, Buffalo, Elephant and Rhino, as well as a whole lot more. I wasn’t too fond…

What I’m Packing… SAFARI

By the time you read this post, I’m already at one of my favourite places on earth… the wild, African bush! The hubs and I, together with ten of our friends are spending a few days connecting with nature! I’m a total bush baby, and one of the big benefits of living in beautiful South Africa, is that “the wild” is only a few hours drive. I’ve been on a lot of safari trips and game drives, but nothing compares to the experience we’re heading for… A private bush camp in the Timbevati that’s totally disconnected from distractions. There is no TV, no internet, and best of all, no cellphone reception at all, so you really get to disconnect from the outside world and enjoy your trip. This will be my fourth time at this game reserve, which is always the best bush experience. On past trips we’ve seen leopards mating, white lions and a cheetah trying to climb up a tree to enjoy its prey, only to have it snatched by the sneaky hyena’s.  On almost every trip, we’ve seen all of the big five and it’s been amazing! It may be winter – but I have Spring In My Step! I’ll admit, I’m not usually one to wear running shoes or sneakers outside of the gym – but these New Balance Midnight Blooms are so beautiful, so comfy and so darn cute, they are the perfect casual kicks that don’t look overly sporty! I actually love them!
