Whats happening Hollywood?

Posted on 04 Dec 2009 at 4:00pm

It has been a while since we have had a good gossip session with the citizens of Tinsel Town being the main subjects. I mean with all due respect, most celebs have real lives that could be the dramatic storyline of a soap opera.  We’re not complaining though, because the more dramatic for them, the more entertaining for us!

Celeb Obsessed – Celebs eat, right?

Posted on 27 Nov 2009 at 6:56am

There is a photo that seems to be circulating in the media world, taken by none other than a member of the “trusted” paparazzi of L.A. This photo is not of vital world importance and actually has no meaning or message behind it, other than proving the notion that celebs don’t eat to be false.

Celeb designer gear – The latest target for Hollywood burglary ring

Posted on 13 Nov 2009 at 8:15am

The Hollywood hills are alive. Not with the sound of music, but the sound of youngsters breaking into the homes of the rich and famous. Recently celebs such as Paris Hilton, Audrina from the Hills and Orlando Bloom have been making headlines, and for a change it actually is not on their own doing.

Très Chic – Best dressed at Paris Fashion week

Posted on 30 Oct 2009 at 8:28am

Celebs from all over the globe descended to the city of lights and romance to check out all the hottest new trends for Spring/Summer 2010. Paris fashion week has such a fairytale air surrounding it, that when thinking about this ultra glam event, I feel like the 6 year old girl comes out in me and my imagination takes me to faraway places, where princes fight dragons to rescue his princess in a mystical castle. Paris Fashion Week is my fairytale 16 years later.

Other Fashion Week’s around the world are also amazing don’t get me wrong, but Paris Fashion week is just so special. The French might not be known to be the friendliest of characters, but boy do they know style and elegance. This spectacular week brings the chicest of the chic and the most beautiful of people together to drink Don Perignon and air kiss to their hearts extent.

Celebs and fashion go together like Dolce and Gabbana, so it goes without saying that October in Paris was like Los Angeles on a normal day. They could be seen sitting front and centre at all the must-see shows such as Louis Vuitton and John Galliano. I must say some of these well known faces really out did themselves and looked like they could be walking in the fashion show instead of being part of the audience.

Here are my best dressed celebs spotted at Paris Fashion week 2009 Leighton Meester was giving us a sneak peak of trends we can expect next year summer. A very different look to her alice band wearing character on Gossip Girl. She was seen just about to go to the Louis Vuitton show and coincidently she just happened to be wearing a dress from Louis Vuitton resort collection 2010.

Rihanna wears a must-have trend for us folks a season behind, but seems is still very much around for next season too. The high waist skirt can be worn long or short and for any occasion. I also think it can be rather flattering for ladies who worry about those love handles. Rihanna is wearing Chanel. (I know, you would have never guessed!)

By the looks of things the Louis Vuitton show was the place to be this year at Fashion week. Katy Perry joined fellow glamour girl Rihanna looking ultra glam in that modern 1960’s look. Seems like metallic’s are going nowhere.

Last up, a face that has not made an appearance in this column so far, and what better event than Paris Fashion Week for her debut on Celeb Obsessed. Not a stranger to fashion at all, Claudia Schiffer. She was also attending the Chanel Pret a Porter show. This super model really puts the SUPER in model. She looks so gorgeous in this classic Chanel black and white cardi dress but updates it with black tights and ankle boots. Effortless I tell you!

Celeb Obsessed – What baby weight?

Posted on 09 Oct 2009 at 7:44am

The land of the rich and famous has expanded its species as of late, with brand new bouncing bambinos. Now, I know when you think babies in the Hollywood, your mind immediately goes to the far away destinations such as Cambodia or an African country. Been there, done that and written the column, regarding adoption.

Believe it or not, I am really talking about actually having a baby – as in doing the nasty and giving birth to a kid that has the same DNA as you. Strange to certain celebs in Tinsel Town, but a couple have actually done the down time and carried a baby for 9 months instead of increasing their frequent flyer miles.

A kiss is worth a thousand words

Posted on 18 Sep 2009 at 7:21am

What is it with Hollywood and girl on girl action? Don’t get me wrong I am all for being with whomever you choose, whether it be gay, straight or even bi. It is 2009 and the world we live in at the moment is as open as ever to “new” experiences and adventures. I mean seriously if America can put Obama in the Whitehouse then anything is possible. A lot of celebs are currently being very out spoken about issues of equality and I am all for it.

Just like the late, great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr said. “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.” This should apply to more than just race, the world needs to just take a deep breath, chill and start focusing on issues that are a little more serious than two guys getting married, race or religion. I mean people are still dying of starvation!

But moving swiftly along to the reason why you read this column, let’s talk about celebs. The latest occurrence that has caught my attention and got me thinking is Drew Barrymore and Ellen Page giving each other a nice smooch in hopes of promoting their latest movie “Whip it”. Some might say a blatant attempt to create hype but yip they smooching in the latest issue of the American Marie Claire.

The good, the bad and the scary

Posted on 04 Sep 2009 at 8:10am

Celebrities are a breed with distinct attributes that set them apart in the playing field we call Hollywood. Just like cheetahs have spots, these mystical creatures have the latest Chanel bag and can more often than not, be seen dining at the trendiest spots in town – like the Ivy or Mr Chows.

One thing we can be certain of is when these celebs are spotted, perhaps shopping along Hollywood Blvd. They always looks so glamorous with their huge shades and for lack of better words… done to perfection. I mean let us face it, just like we dread a bad hair day or a skin breakout on the same day, they dread looking like us mere mortals, or probably to celebs we’re just known as “the common folk”.

But wait there is hope and the light at the end of the long tunnel gets so bright that even we need those big shades. This bizarre occurrence is as rare as when the shoes you have been eyeing for weeks go on sale and they only have your size left. I am talking about the rare occasion when a paparazzi photographer annoying to celebs, but heroes to us mortals for capturing the million dollar shot of our favourites celebrities, dare I say it… looking human!

I have managed to get my hands on these priceless pics. Is it so shocking for me to admit that it makes me kind of happy inside that even celebs have bad hair days and they really do need make-up? Anyway enough of me having a therapy session- let’s get to the good stuff!!

OK, so first up we have my favourite reality show host and very sexy Victoria Secret model Heidi Klum. I am going to give props were they due because Ms Klum actually does not look that terrible without make-up on and greased back hair, but she does look a lot more human on the pic on the right and is it just me or does she also look 10 years older too?… Let us all stand in prayer for the person who invented hair product and make-up.

YIKES!! This is just scary no matter which way you look at it… Next please!

Next up, I have found a not so flattering photo of Halle Berry who lets us know that even the most beautiful of women occasionally have a bad hair day, so relax you are normal!

And last up, we have no surprises here because have you ever seen a good pic of Amy Winehouse?! I just added this to remind us all to stay away from drugs!!

So, don’t be so hard on yourself. The next time you wake up with frizzy hair and a nice red pimple on your forehead just think… how lucky you are not to be a celeb so this unattractive moment is not captured by the paparazzi for millions to see.

Dynamite comes in the mini dress package

Posted on 21 Aug 2009 at 7:37am

The latest shindig to have brought Hollywood’s young A listers together on yet another red carpet, was the 2009 Teen Choice awards held just last week. As per usual the ladies were as skinny and as bronzed as ever but there were definitely some useful summer trends, that us gals sitting in the last bought of winter can definitely steal- I mean utilise this summer.

I have two words that young Hollywood have bestowed upon us as in a major must have way this summer season and these two very sacred words are the MINI DRESS! If I didn’t know any better I would think that everyone had the same stylist for this award show because everyone who is female that is, rocked up at the awards in ultra sexy platform shoes that are seriously getting higher by the day and of course sporting the ever so tiny mini dress.

If you don’t believe me then I shall, as per usual have your back and provide you with my top finds of the best dressed who just all happen to be wearing the mini dress… (coincidence, I think not) at the awards ceremony and they are… drum roll please (so dramatic!)

I first give you the queen of the Upper East Side, Gossip Girls’ Leighton Meester who is not only wearing the mini dress but is on point with the style and of course the stripes. Personally I would expect nothing less from the designer of the dress the legendary house of style Louis Vuitton. Need I say more…

My next best dressed starlet was Vanessa Hudgens, who looks so amazing that I am seriously jealous at this moment in time. This work of art was created by fashions’ Picasso, the label who invented style for women – Christian Dior. OK, so Miss Hudgens was one of the few who decided to wear her hair free flowing in that natural bohemian way that I usually am a fan of, but for this exquisite dress with such amazing detail along the neck line, an up do would have worked a tad better, just to show the dress off.  But let’s face it, it would take a lot more then flowing locks to detract from this magnificent mini.

My last pick for best dressed in a mini dress (sticking with the award ceremony vibe), goes to another High School Musical graduate Ashley Tisdale who had a very similar look to her BFF Vanessa,  but at the same time looked completely different. That is what I love about celebrity style. They manage or more likely their stylist always manages to give them a unique look that is very individual. Ashley also looks so fab in this ultra glam mini dress. Loving the colours and the style is a must have!  Ashely’s dress is from Used/ Unuse.

So there you have it, go book those leg wax appointments and up the cardio because this summer your legs are going to be the main attraction!

You can leave your hat on…

Posted on 27 Jul 2009 at 8:06am

Winter is an especially great time to wear hats.  Although many use hats to cover up bad hair days (and indeed there is a place for that), there are more reasons to don something on your head.

It can take a little courage at first, but try on an assortment of different styles and you’ll find your match.  Choose a hat that fits your face and complements your skin colour. For instance, if you have a longer face, steer clear of hats with a lot of height, while if your face is of the rounder variety, you’ll look fab in a loftier version. Ruddy cheeks?  Stick to hats in shades of brown.

The next tip in your quest for hat loveliness is to not fuss too much with your hair.  Don’t style it and either sweep it back or leave it long.  Your hat should also be the correct size, meaning it shouldn’t cover your eyes (duh!) or give you a headache.  I love to play a bit with hats and pin brooches onto them, or tie a ribbon around them.

A lovely fedora is great for dressing up a simple tee and jeans, and adds a girlie twist to a skirt and heels.  Wear lower on your head, near to your eyebrows, and don’t forgo make-up with this more masculine look.

Knitted berets a la Selma Blair are super cute on any length hair.  Tuck your hair away under the beret for a chic look, and tilt the hat to one side to fully embrace Parisian elegance!

The beanie is best suited for long sleek hair – curly locks can look a little overwhelming, although give it a shot!  Nicky Hilton goes for a monotone look to add edginess to this punky accessory.

For a comical tutorial on different ways of styling the beanie check out this site.   The knitted “newsboy” is a winner in the fun and stylish stakes.  Wear with trenches or simple tees and a cardi, and always a sleek pony tail.

Hats without a doubt do attract more attention than a head of hair, so be prepared…and enjoy it! For more on Jenny and her store Friends with Jenny click through to www.friendswithjenny.blogspot.com
