Samantha Cole won the award for Best Woman’s Wear Designer (Spring/Summer 09) at the Mecca of global fashion, New York Fashion Week, in 2008. This year, when she took part in the inaugural Arise African Fashion Week in Joburg, she teared up.
Celebs from all over the globe descended to the city of lights and romance to check out all the hottest new trends for Spring/Summer 2010. Paris fashion week has such a fairytale air surrounding it, that when thinking about this ultra glam event, I feel like the 6 year old girl comes out in me and my imagination takes me to faraway places, where princes fight dragons to rescue his princess in a mystical castle. Paris Fashion Week is my fairytale 16 years later.
Other Fashion Week’s around the world are also amazing don’t get me wrong, but Paris Fashion week is just so special. The French might not be known to be the friendliest of characters, but boy do they know style and elegance. This spectacular week brings the chicest of the chic and the most beautiful of people together to drink Don Perignon and air kiss to their hearts extent.
Celebs and fashion go together like Dolce and Gabbana, so it goes without saying that October in Paris was like Los Angeles on a normal day. They could be seen sitting front and centre at all the must-see shows such as Louis Vuitton and John Galliano. I must say some of these well known faces really out did themselves and looked like they could be walking in the fashion show instead of being part of the audience.
Here are my best dressed celebs spotted at Paris Fashion week 2009 Leighton Meester was giving us a sneak peak of trends we can expect next year summer. A very different look to her alice band wearing character on Gossip Girl. She was seen just about to go to the Louis Vuitton show and coincidently she just happened to be wearing a dress from Louis Vuitton resort collection 2010.

Rihanna wears a must-have trend for us folks a season behind, but seems is still very much around for next season too. The high waist skirt can be worn long or short and for any occasion. I also think it can be rather flattering for ladies who worry about those love handles. Rihanna is wearing Chanel. (I know, you would have never guessed!)

By the looks of things the Louis Vuitton show was the place to be this year at Fashion week. Katy Perry joined fellow glamour girl Rihanna looking ultra glam in that modern 1960’s look. Seems like metallic’s are going nowhere.

Last up, a face that has not made an appearance in this column so far, and what better event than Paris Fashion Week for her debut on Celeb Obsessed. Not a stranger to fashion at all, Claudia Schiffer. She was also attending the Chanel Pret a Porter show. This super model really puts the SUPER in model. She looks so gorgeous in this classic Chanel black and white cardi dress but updates it with black tights and ankle boots. Effortless I tell you!
On the 22nd of September Burberry closed London Fashion Week. All the stars came out to get a front row seat. Check out who was there.
Last week I managed to get down to Cape Town Fashion Week – and boy was it fashionable sight to behold! So many fashionistas in one area was mind boggling. I managed to get some snaps of those that I thought had great style – but because there were so many, Ill have to do this in 2 parts (part 2 coming up next week).
I am loving the use of colour in this outfit below: from the red lip, to the red belt, to the red shoes. If you are a little scared to use colour, using accent colours like the lady below will really help you to inject colour into your outfit without making you feel uncomfortable.
And then I stumbled across this delicious-looking bag: Patchwork – Gotta love it! I think getting a great, interesting handbag can really lift any outfit. If patchwork isnt your thing, then try other details like braided straps like the pic at the bottom?
Love the details on this bag – dont settle for the ordinary! Go through your mom’s closet, she probably has great handbags from way back when.
The fabulous people of Joburg arrived dressed in their finest fashionable outfits, all made up and coiffed to the nines. The laughter, the glitz and the glamour of famous, almost famous and wanna-be famous, filled the pre-show area. Everywhere you looked, cameras were swirling around, photographers were photographing people blowing air kisses, chatting, laughing and anxiously waiting for the start of the show.
(Me with Sam (Haute Wheels) at Fashion Week reporting for StyleScoop)
Once the fabulous crowd moved towards their prized seats (after all, The Audi Joburg Fashion Week is the most prestigious event on the local fashion calendar), the anticipation was exhilarating and YES everybody was looking at each other with a critical eye, scrutinising every outfit, the shoes, the hand bags and definitely the accessories. This is what a fashion show is all about… what is in, hot and who is not!
AND then… the lights go off, the music starts and the SHOW begins…

It is not a common occurrence that I view a runway show, page though a fashion magazine, or just strut into my favourite boutique where every item in front of my lustful eyes whisper “take me home”.
Until, last night that is…
Where: Sandton Convention Centre What: Audi Joburg Fashion Week Who: Leigh Schubert
Flouncing ruffles, delicate lace, sexy sheer, Puffed sleeves … perfectly blended with Cigarette pants, figure hugging mini’s, flowing layers … and artistically revamped footless tights. Leigh Shubert had it all…
Her designs made me feel that I can be every woman … all at the same time. Why choose between Carrie’s quirky costumes, Samantha’s sexy ensembles, Charlotte’s elegant garments and Miranda’s fuss-free attire… When you can have it all with the just one of her designs?
A well deserved 10/10 for drama, intrigue, timeless cant-live-without garments!

“I graduated in October 2007 winning ‘Best Range on Show’ from DUT and was then selected to compete for a slot at MTN Durban Fashion Week in June 2008.
My winning range was based around creating awareness against war with the word ‘STOP’ as the focal point, using natural organic fabrication on sculptured, textured silhouettes. Challenging myself to think past conventional methods of construction and design. I have since been invited to stock my ready to wear collection at The Space in Rosebank in JHB and will be showcasing at JHB Audi Fashion Week 2009.
