Like Google has become the international code-word for searching online, ghd has become the term everyone uses when straightening hair. So it’s no surprise that ghd is such a hot hair brand, but it’s also great to see them literally at the forefront of fashion. Last night, my fabulous new contributor (who I will introduce to you officially next week) and I, attended the ghd Expert trade show in Durban. This show is held once a year and aims to empower hairdressers around the country (there are shows in Jo’burg and CapeTown too), grooming them into ghd hair styling experts. The event was held at the very stylish DLI Hall in Durban – home of the Durban July official after-parties. The setup was sensational, complete with pink feathers, glitz and glam; you literally felt like you were at a high profile fashion show, combined with an uber trendy nightclub. The ambiance was delightful and the entertainment, models and food were all top notch. Inside the jam-packed venue were Durban’s finest hairstylists from every salon that mattered, and they were there to learn new ways to weave their ghd magic wand from leading local and international ghd hair experts.

You know what they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, right?  How about clothes?  Vintage is a fairly new fashion buzzword and in my opinion, a great way to make old, used clothes more fashion-fab rather than trailer-park-drab. What would you rather say; “I love mixing vintage pieces with jeans” or “I love wearing these old jeans that I bought from a jumble sale (remember those) at my neighbours trailer”? Yeah exactly! The other day I got an email from Tonia Zorbas, who is part of a great South African project called Fashion Exchange.  It’s a local company that…

On Friday last week, I was invited to attend the Durban event of the GHD Style Lounge with my friend Rhona. The event was held at *Max* Institute of Fashion Art at Gateway.  The venue had been transformed into a GHD pop up salon, and with its full-on fashion ramp, could not have been more fitting. Our “pamper session” started the minute we walked in. We were greeted with a glass of bubbly and let loose among the fabulous spread of mouth watering treats – my favourite was the chocolate fountain with strawberries and marshmallows, which I had to resist with force. The venue buzzed with stylists and fashionista’s alike and former Miss South Africa, Megan Coleman was there too.  All the girls looked fabulous with their hair and makeup, trotting around with glasses of champagne, chatting at the bar or enjoying the treats.  We started with “Mane’s” – Our hair was fabbed and styled with GHD hot irons and GHD products, specific to our hair’s individual needs.  Tracy did a great job of giving me loose, sexy curls – In addition we were also treated to a goodie bag filled with GHD hair products, to keep up the styling…
