Dove Nourishing Oil Care Shampoo Review

Dove Nourishing Oil Care Shampoo Review

I have a confession to make… I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to my hair and I prefer to spend a little (sometimes a lot) more on salon products, as apposed to those you can get for half the price at the supermarket. My hair is straight, quite long and has no natural “bounce”, so when I use products that are too rich (often the case with supermarket ranges) they end up causing too much buildup, which leaves my hair very greasy and dull even after I’ve just washed it. Because my hair is also so fine, it often needs treatment to moisturize and de-tangle, but that for me just means more product build up in my hair! Arhh! So, when I received Dove’s Nourishing Oil Care Shampoo to review, I was instantly intrigued by these words “a shampoo with WEIGHTLESS nutri-oils”. They even put the words “WEIGHTLESS” in capital letters, which is exactly what I am looking for in a shampoo! Putting my hair snobbery on hold, I decided to give it a bash. I’ve always loved Dove soap and their moisturizers and body washes are great, so I wanted to see how their shampoo measures up. Well, I can say that I…

Seriously Awesome Hair Products We Haven’t Featured Before

Seriously Awesome Hair Products We Haven’t Featured Before

On hectic days like yesterday’s Manic Monday, I often have to get ready super-fast, so that I can squeeze as much work into the morning, before the day runs away from me! Know the feeling? One of the things I often cut short is my hair styling time! I don’t know about you girls, but my hair needs to be washed (and dried with a dryer) every single day. If it’s not, then halfway through the afternoon it starts looking limp and so not fabulous! So, I’m always looking for new products to make my hair stay clean, shiny and full of life, but I’d also like to get a day off from having to wash it every day (even though I do prefer it squeaky clean daily).  Here are some new, exciting and never been featured before hair products that I’m enjoying right now. I have (most) of these sitting in my shower, and use them on different days depending on how my hair looks and feels at the time… To scroll through the selection, click the product thumbnails below or use the black arrow to the right to start the slideshow and read up on all of them…

Tame your Mane

Tame your Mane

At the beginning of last month, I was invited to try out KeraStraight – a keratin straightening and hair repair treatment at the beautifully decorated Hairven salon at Hillcrest’s Heritage Market. It’s a great treatment to try if you’re having problems managing  your hair, or if it’s just looking frizzy and takes too long to style. About the treatment KeraStraight is an in-salon treatment (so no, you can’t do it yourself). The process involves getting your hair washed with a special cleansing shampoo – that deep cleans your hair and opens up the hair cuticle. Then, one of three KeraStraight treatments is applied to the hair (depending on your hair’s condition). It is then combed through and left to develop before blow drying and ironing. Then another wash at the basin before rough drying the hair to reveal how beautifully conditioned and shiny it looks. Be prepared though, you will be spending a good couple of hours at the salon, but the treatment is totally worth it. What I like about this treatment is that there were no nasty fumes during the process. I have had other “keratin treatments” that left my eyes watering because of the fumes, but with this one there was none of that. In fact,…

Ombre! Before and After

Ombre! Before and After

Ombre Hair is the biggest trend this season! A few weeks ago I posted about trying this style out on my hair, so here you go…. Hair by the fabulous and talented Louise at Zephyr Hair in Gillits – KZN. My hair colour before was a pretty light shade after multiple applications of highlights! As much as I loved the golden glow, with winter approaching I wanted to go darker but not too dark, so Ombre hair was the perfect fit for me. Louise working her magic! I do love the Ombre hair trend, but for my hair I didn’t want an in-your-face contrast between dark and light, so asked Louise to give it a more blended effect. She applied a darker shade over my roots into the middle of my lengths using Loreal 4.3 and leaving out the already lighter ends of my hair. After letting the colour set for 35 minutes, she ran a comb through my ends to blend the darker colour into the highlights, and then it was onto the basin for washing and rinsing. The finished look, Olé Ombre hair! I’m really loving this look and might get a bit braver next time and make it more in-your-face Ombre! If you’re a Durban girl give…

90 Days of Nioxin

90 Days of Nioxin

Have you heard of Nioxin? It’s a full range of hair and scalp treatments that optimize the health of your scalp to give you great looking hair. Nioxin is a professional haircare system (sold only in salons) that does more than just clean your hair. It helps to remove all the gunk that clogs your hair follicle. This buildup, caused in part by day-to-day hair products, prevents your hair from getting the nourishment it needs to look shiny and beautifully healthy. With Nioxin, scalp care is at the forefront of their product development, and they believe that a healthy scalp requires the same attention and care as the skin on your face! A healthy scalp also helps to create healthy hair that shines, with a thicker, denser appearance. Recently we were spoiled by Nioxin and got to try out their 3-part-Systems for three different hair concerns; fine hair, thinning hair and weak hair. So we put these products to the test. Louise (left) and I (right) used Nioxin’s Starter Kit System 3 for fine, treated, normal to thin looking hair. “V” (middle) used Nioxin System 2 for noticeable thinning. All three of us, used only Nioxin on our hair for…

May the FORCE be with you – Thicker hair in just 30 days!

May the FORCE be with you – Thicker hair in just 30 days!

REDKEN launches a new range of hair care products, targeted specifically to thickening your hair and leaving you with fuller locks! YES PLEASE! Say hello the new Intra Force system… The range consists of three products, including a Shampoo, Toner and Scalp Treatment and comes in two variations; one for coloured hair, and one for naturally thinning hair. The Detoxifying Shampoo gently cleanses hair, helping to reduce excess sebum and DHT to promote hair density and an overall healthy scalp environment. The Lightweight Toner helps to de-tangle, moisturize and strengthen the hair while replenishing the hair and scalp and preventing breakage. The Scalp Treatment, designed for daily use, is a fast absorbing treatment with a unique liquid-to-foam formula that energizes the scalp and promotes hair density. All in all, I love the idea of this range and it seems more and more hair ranges are focusing on scalp health, because at the end of the day, beautiful hair cannot grow in a messy foundation. I’ve just started with this range and so far, I like it. I haven’t been on it for 30 days, (as recommended), so cannot report on the effectiveness, but after five days of usage my hair…
