Drugstore Makeup Musthaves

Drugstore Makeup Musthaves

Lately, there have been a couple of fab makeup goodies on offer at the drugstore. Yes, yes, I know a drugstore, is technically a pharmacy in South Africa, but let’s be honest, who wants to read about pharmacy makeup!? Drugstore sounds so much better, and I’m sure you gals know what I’m talking about, either way!

Beauty Bytes – Fun (New) Makeup Stocking Stuffers

Beauty Bytes – Fun (New) Makeup Stocking Stuffers

Disclaimer… From here on out, there are going to be a ton of festive posts, so brace yourselves for festive season overload 🙂 I’ve received some totally fun makeup goodies these past few weeks that would make really cute, affordable and very loveable stocking stuffers to boot. Most of them are under R100, with a few exceptions, but nothing more than R400! Blotterazzi by the Beauty Blender Let me first just say, that I absolutely LOVE my Beauty Blender. It’s the most amazing makeup application sponge on the planet and yes, although it’s pricey, I’ve had mine for at least 2 years and I use it every day (read my review and an affordable dupe version here). With that out of the way, let me tell you gals about the Beauty Blenders’ new little guy, the Blotterazzi.  A cute and compact on the go “blotter” and a fab alternative to blotting papers. If you have an oily skin that constantly needs blotting, or you’re like me, and your makeup likes to move around over the course of the day, then the Blotterazzi will be your new BFF! This clever little sponge, designed to be used dry (unlike the Beauty Blender which is best used damp), is thirsty…

New Skincare Launches… Tried, Tested, Loved!

New Skincare Launches… Tried, Tested, Loved!

[tps_header]Some new products I’ve been playing with recently… tried, tested and loved skincare goodies! In today’s scoop I share six wonderful products that work wonders on your skin. From an instant wrinkle plaster, to an amazing pore reducing concentrate. A pretty impressive pigmentation cream to a skin boosting serum, as well as some makeup fixes including a beauty fix spray and a cute as a button primer. To view more detail on each of these products, just use the black arrow sliders to check out the product and my thoughts… [/tps_header] Filorga Deep Fill Think of this stuff as “Polyfilla” for your face! Basically, you apply it directly onto your wrinkles, over your day cream and it “fills them in”, or at least reduces their “intensity”. BONUS! I have always had quite defined nasolabial folds (mouth lines), so I’ve been applying some of this product directly onto them to make them appear less defined and it’s working. The effect is subtle, but definitely blurs them out. It’s a great product, think of it as a primer, pre-makeup which helps to improve the texture of your skin, smoothing it out, so that your makeup applies more flawlessly! Price: *check back soon* for 10ml

Ohh Baby Baby! Maybelline Babylips… BABY

Ohh Baby Baby! Maybelline Babylips… BABY

I am OBSESSED with these gorgeous lip balms from Maybelline! I had seen them on nearly every fashion and beauty gal that matters’ Instagram feed, and wasn’t that excited, until I actually tried them! Now there is no separating us…BABY I know lip balm isn’t exactly the latest development in the beauty biz (now if it was a BB lip cream, hmmm), but I can totally understand what all the fuss is about! Maybelline Babylips come in six options and I absolutely luuuurve the packaging! It’s so fun! Three of them; Cherry Me (orange packaging), Pink Punch (pink packaging) and Peach Kiss (purple packaging) offer a gorgeous tint (that fills the lips fabulously), while the other three; Hydrate (blue packaging), Mint Fresh (green packaging) and Intense Care (yellow packaging) offer clear lip balm protection to suit your lip requirements needs. I’m sorry, I couldn’t wait to try out Pink Punch before I got a change to photograph all of them together – so yes, I know, its used in the photo! But, I’m telling you, it was calling my name! And I haven’t been able to put it down since! I’m a huge (huge, mega, massive) fan of MAC Saint Germain Lipstick.…

Color Tattoo Cream Eye Shadow

Color Tattoo Cream Eye Shadow

Maybelline have just launched five awesome cream shadows in their new Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow Range. The five fabulous shades include; Eternal Gold, Endless Purple, Turquoise Forever, Permanent Taupe and Timeless Black. I got to play with Eternal Gold (05) and Timeless Black (60) – which even make a great combination together! The formula is part of Maybelline’s “ink technology” which creates super saturated shadow that is said to last for up to 24 hours. I haven’t quite put the 24 hour theory to the test, but the product did stay on for a good 8 hours! The gold is probably my fave as it’s quite sparkly but not OTT! I’d love to try out the purple and turquoise next! Maybelline Color Tattoo 24Hr Cream Gel Shadow retails for R99.95 each. For more info visit their Facebook page here

Save/ Splurge – Long Lasting Foundations

Save/ Splurge – Long Lasting Foundations

I’m constantly asked which foundations last the longest, and so for today’s blog, I decided to do a little Save/ Splurge feature on my two fave, long lasting foundations of the moment. I have a perfect drugstore buy and a perfect counter purchase to suit both budgets… SAVE Maybelline SuperStay 24H – R154.95 Maybelline SuperStay24 foundation claims to last 24 hours. Well, I don’t know the exact time, but this foundation did last me all day long, right to the point where you can actually see the foundation wipe off on your face cloth when you wash your face before bed. Most of the day my skin looked even toned and natural without getting a thick, waxy feel, although after about 8 hours, it started looking a little yellow! Nothing a little tissue blotting didn’t sort out. It’s a got Micro-Flex Stretch Formula that allows the foundation to move with your skin, so no cracking! I really do like it, especially for the price and I’ve found the perfect shade, 048 Sun Beige. SPLURGE CHANEL Perfection Lumiere – R505 I’ll admit, I’m a little biased when it comes to CHANEL foundations. I love them all and have yet to find…

Beauty How To – GUESS Accessories Campaign

Beauty How To – GUESS Accessories Campaign

I am head-over-heels in love with the latest Guess Accessories campaign! The makeup is to-die-for and I can’t wait to try this look out, so I asked two of my favourite Durban based makeup artists, Candice Mac Nicol (@cands_mac) and Lisa Bailey (@LisaBaileyPout)  to give me their tips, tricks and product recommendations on how to get this glam old-Hollywood look! ON THE FACE Candice’s Tips Allow your natural skin and glow to shine through! The foundation is light and well-matched to the skin tone, allowing a natural glow. Using a wet cosmetic sponge, wet Beauty Blender or wet Stippling brush, apply a light to medium coverage liquid foundation on the face. Great products to use include MAC Face & Body or Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. Apply concealer only where needed (under eyes, around base of nose, any red areas). This type of look requires a natural skin tone and the final look shouldn’t be too heavy or matte. Great products to use include Bobbi Brown concealer, Clinique eye concealer or Smashbox HD concealer. If you’d like, apply a highlighting concealer under the eyes like YSL Touche Eclat. Use a flat, synthetic brush and your ring finger. Contour & Highlight using a matte…

Oh the Drama! Maybelline’s new Master Drama Eye Pencils

Oh the Drama! Maybelline’s new Master Drama Eye Pencils

Whoaa, the drama! These fab new Maybelline liners just landed on my desk, and as a liner lovin’ lady, I’m impressed! There are two kinds of pencil liners in this collection; a creamy Master Drama Khol pencil in a variety of colours (I tried out the Dark Brown and Ultra Black) and a super fine Master Precise Liner. The khol pencil offers an intense crayon effect with a concentration of pigments that give you dark, lush lines every time! I love how soft and creamy these are, and even with a small stroke, you get solid, bold colour! Check my swatches below… The Master Precise Liquid Liner has a 0.4mm point that’s super fine for creating those precise lines. The felt tip is said to never dry or skip. I like the idea of that! Check out the campaing image below. I love the cat eye effect, created with these fab liners. Both liners launch in October 2011. Both the Maybelline Master Drama Liquid Eyeliner and the Maybelline Master Drama Khol Liner retail at R89.95 each.

Take a look at the all new Mini Colorama collection… These high gloss nail polishes are designed to be durable, flexible and move with your nail to prevent chipping and peeling. Ill confirm that later after I paint my nails in one of the colours, I’m thinking Party Blue would be so cool! The formula is super light, which means, yep you guessed it, you need at least three coats to get it looking vibrant, but once you apply your third coat, nails are good to go! These polishes are available right now and cost R44.95 each! What colour are you lusting over?

Maybelline Volum’ Express One by One Waterproof Mascara – Blackest Black

Maybelline Volum’ Express One by One Waterproof Mascara – Blackest Black

Just when you think Maybelline Volum’ Express mascara‘s can’t get any better, they introduce you to a new one that tops the last. This one is called One by One Waterproof Mascara and I think it kicks Falsies‘ sweet purple bee-hind! Pretty in a pink tube, Maybelline Volum’ Express One by One Waterproof Mascara in Blackest Black coats each lash leaving it 100% clump free. Big flirty lashes from root to tip that promise to say there thanks to the waterproof technology. I love the super bendy brush that allows me to get right into the the root, creating bold, lush lashes from root to tip. I have naturally very sparse lashes, so it’s great to find mascara that gives me longer, lusher lashes without messing. Even when applying to lower lashes, Maybelline Volum’ Express One by One Waterproof Mascara works like a charm! And for those of you die-hard fans, the brush actually does come in blue, of course once you dip it into your mascara it goes black, but we love the effect.
