Essie – New Winter Nail Colours

Essie – New Winter Nail Colours

Get ready to swoon as the new Essie Winter Nail Colour Collection hits the shelf! We’ve got the inside scoop on the latest colours, as well as the story behind their creation. PLUS find out which shade is my favourite from the six… Shearling Darling is a beautiful, deep maroon shade that inspired Essie (Creator of Essie Nail polish) after a trip to Aspen. Cuddled up by the fire, in the heart of the rocky mountains, with apple cider and delicious freshly baked red velvet cupcakes set Essie’s tastebuds on overdrive. This warm and fuzzy experience led her imagination to create this warm, rich shade of nail polish! After her Aspen trip, Essie and her husband stopped off at a Winter Lodge Spa in the mountains. This retreat featured therapeutic hot springs along with endless pampering. Ohhh, can you imagine?! Essie says “there is nothing quite like being warm and toasty indoors, watching the snow fall over a breathtaking mountain landscape outside” The winter sky, with it’s soft colours and sun setting low on the horizon was the inspiration for Essie to create this colour, Warm and Toasty Turtleneck, which is in essence a toast to winter fun and pampering. Inspired by the “rich and sparkly deep crimson…

Sublime Nails

Sublime Nails

Oh yes! It’s time to get inspired for a change of season. Loving MAVALA’s new nail trends for our upcoming Autumn/ Winter 2014 in South Africa! Their latest collection, Sublime, features six sensual shades that adopt a more intimate, classic attitude while keeping the look feminine, seductive and confident. Glamorous nudes, browns, blushes and blues inspired by the 1940’s. Poetic Rose – a smoky rose Twilight Blue – a dark midnight blue Espresso – a warm dark brown Amethyst – a precious purple Ivory Beige – a luxurious beige Warm Grey  – a beige grey Such gorgeous, rich and pretty colours! I’ve been rocking Amethyst for a couple of days now and although I am not a fan of purple nail polish, this one is such a great colour. It’s like a deep plum, reminiscent of a good glass of red wine. I can’t wait to trade in my bright oranges and hot pinks for some sensual winter shades. Which one is your fave? [signature]

Nail Polish That Lasts For 7 Days?! VINYLUX Is Here!

Nail Polish That Lasts For 7 Days?! VINYLUX Is Here!

I’m so amped to share this news with you! I’ve been holding onto it until the product arrived in South Africa, and so excited that VINYLUX – The seven day, flawless colour nail polish, is finally here! VINYLUX is a brand new range of nail polish from one of my favourite nail brands, CND (you know the geniuses behind the awesome Shellac). But, what makes it different is that it claims to last for up to seven days! VINYLUX is unlike any other self-application nail polish you’ve ever used. It’s new innovative system, that includes a self-adhering colour coat requires absolutely no base coat! It dries faster, it’s more durable and claims to ensure no chipping or scratching for at least one week! You need two thin layers of VINYLUX Weekly Colour Coat and one layer of VINYLUX Top Coat for 7 Days of non-chip, non-fade nails!  The innovative, special formula Top Coat becomes more durable and powerful when exposed to natural light, which ensures that your nail colour stays as vibrant as the day you applied it! Ordinary nail polish takes between 15-20 minutes to dry! But who really has time for that? VINYLUX dries completely in eight and half minutes – flat! Now…

Chili & Spice! Hot New Colours From Mavala

Chili & Spice! Hot New Colours From Mavala

Some like it hot!  I absolutely love vibrant, bright nail colour, so I was super excited when these babies from Mavala landed on my desk the other day! Chili & Spice is all about bringing out the brightest brights and hottest nail colours for a sizzling hot summer! Definitely something to look forward to while we bear the cold in not so sunny SA! The collection features six intense shades inspired by tropical paradises around the globe! If you want a quick trip without the travel, then these six shades will take you there! Trinidad, Jaipur, Bali (my fave), Bamako, Samarkand and Cuzco. I love these nail colours and the colour of the bottle is true to that of the shade you get on your nails. Super bright and intense! Just the way I like it! To be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of green or purple nailpolish, but Bamako and Samarkand are like no other nail polish I have in my collection – and I have a lot! They are “solid” colours which I often find lacking, especially in these two shades. I can’t wait for summer! At least I’ll have a gorgeous selection of nail polish to match my…

Nail Polish That Breathes

Nail Polish That Breathes

Loving these gorg new nail colours from Inglot! Never mind the pretty colours, these “breathable nail polishes” are the absolute bomb! Inglot’s Breathable Nail polish range is called O2M and while it coats your nails in a beautiful, solid colour, it simultaneously allows them to breathe, by allowing oxygen to pass through the polish and into the nail. The result, healthy nails that still look as fun and colourful as you want them to. So, if you’re obsessed with painting your nails in different colours every day, then you should definitely try out this range. The colours in the pic above (from left): 667, 659, 665 and 672.  Here, I am wearing Inglot O2M in colour 659. It’s a beautiful coral that goes on nice and solid with just one coat and it lasts! I snapped this pic after wearing this colour for 4 days! Very Impressive, considering how hard I am on my nails.

Magnetic Nail Polish

Magnetic Nail Polish

We really are so spoilt when it comes to creative nail choices these days. I’m constantly amazed by the awesome things they come up! Something that recently caught my eye is LCN’s Magnetic Nail Polish. It’s not just another fancy name given to make the nail polish sound cool, LCN’s Magnetic Nail Polish does in fact have a magnetic field and using a magnet, you can give your nails a totally unique, almost 3D look! How it works… You apply a coat of LCN Magnetic Nail polish to your nails as you would any normal nail polish. One, thick layer is all you need. Before it dries, place the magnet over your nail (without touching the nail of course) and hold it there for about 30 seconds. You’ll soon notice the 3d effect starts to take place. There are a number of colours available in the Magnetic range, I used “Green Temptation” a pretty, forest green that looks awesome with this effect. Oh, and you’re probably wondering whether or not you need the LCN magnet or if any magnet will do? Well, I tried it out with a normal magnet and the effect I got was a nice solid ball in the centre of my nail – not cool! The LCN magnet…

Beige like Beckham

Beige like Beckham

I went for my third Shellac colour last week, and I’ve gotta say I am in love with Shellac! My nails have never looked healthier, or naturally longer. Best of all, my nail colour lasts for two weeks solid, and it shines beautifully from start to finish. So I’ve tried a dark colour like Asphalt, a pretty pink called Gotcha, and this time I was feeling a little Beckham – Victoria Beckham that is! As a true Beckham devotee, I’ve got her book “That Extra Half an Inch” and in it she says that beige nail polish does to hands what beige shoes do to legs – make them look miles longer. Beige is such a pretty colour, very sophisticated and glam! This one I did from Shellac is called “Cocoa” – mmm! There is also gorgeous beige nail polish out there for all you DIY gals. One of my faves is Cotton Beige from Tip Top Nail Chic. Inglot and Yves Rocher also make a fab beige, but with a bit more sparkle! To read the post I did on nude nails, click here. To find out which salon offers Shellac, you can call their head office on (011)…

Shellac – The Best Nail System EVER! REVIEW

Shellac – The Best Nail System EVER! REVIEW

As you can tell by my title, I am absolutely LOVING Shellac! I was hooked after day one, but now that I’ve experienced the full benefit of Shellac, I’m even more convinced that this simply is the best nail system ever! If you haven’t heard about Shellac or don’t know what it is, then you should read my first blog post on it, then come back to this post as the “after” as it’s more of a follow up. How long it lasts Nail polish usually lasts 2 days, maximum 3 on my nails, but I managed 14 days of wear on my Shellac. In image 3 you can see how my Shellac looked after four days – still looks perfect! As I’ve mentioned before I’m seriously hard on my nails, banging away on my keyboard all day, opening parcels etc. I did manage to chip my thumb (image 1) around day 4 or 5, and while I could have had it fixed, I wanted to give you guys a proper review, so I left it. That’s as far as the chip got for the full 14 days that I wore this colour. How impressive is that?! It didn’t get…

Fab Find Friday – Shellac

Fab Find Friday – Shellac

Yay, yay, it’s Friday! I’ve decided to bring back my Fab Find Friday features – and why not? We all need a little pampering preview before the weekend right? So stay tuned for these in upcoming weeks. This Friday, I wanted to tell you guys about Shellac – a fairly new (to South Africa at least) nail painting system that will blow you away! I’m absolutely hooked, and I only got Shellac-ed on Wednesday, so that already says a lot! As you probably know, I love nail colour – just like many of you I’m guessing. And just like everyone else, I hate it when my nails chip. Generally I can max out my nail polish for three days, but that’s seriously pushing it! I’m very hard on my nails; banging away on a keyboard all day, opening parcels etc. It’s not a pretty sight when my polish chips off and it certainly is’nt a good look for a gal that runs a beauty and fashion blog! Shellac is a product of CND who are an award winning brand the world over. In the 2011 Nails Readers Choice awards CND won 19 awards, 9 of which were first place and…
