There is an ongoing fascination with the jumpsuit. This is no 1980’s boiler suit though and is as far removed from prison uniforms and sky-diving attire as it’s possible to go. As Stella McCartney (left and below) illustrated in her most recent shows, the new breed of jumpsuit is flattering, feminine and a wardrobe essential for some time to come!
The all-in-one is not necessary embraced by all consumers, but trendsetters around the world have consistently welcomed its sex appeal and practicalities (and impracticalities) over the years, and I don’t think there has ever been a time when the jumpsuit has been more accessible to a wide range of shoppers.
Contrary to popular sentiment, this is not a trend limited to the tall and skinny. It’s all about fabrication and style. Soft draping is always a winner and I think it’s easiest, if you are not very fashion forward, to stick to blouson styles with a classic full leg length rather than the harem versions or rompers (which will be hitting our shores come September).
Team your jumpsuit with heels (especially if you are petite) and a cropped jacket. Add accessories like a low-slung belt and clutch to add interest. And finally put aside your reservations and preconceptions about the all in one and try a few different styles on. I can guarantee that you’ll be surprised how flattering and gorgeous this little garment can be!
