We’re used to leather jackets, leather boots and even leather gloves, but leather skirts, dresses, vests and trousers? Well that’s exactly the trend that’s happening for summer Leather for 2010 can take the form of pretty much any item of clothing, and if you can think it, chances are it’s been sent down the runway.
Leather styles will predominately be in earthy and monochromatic tones, and although some styles will tend towards the hippie, vintage side of things, most leather looks will definitely fall into the rock-chic and fetish camps. Leather radiates confidence and body consciousness – think a sleek leather dress or tight, rocker leather trousers. The key, as with most fashion trends, is to stick to one leather item per outfit.
Leather can be worn in a more lady-like way too, and you can take this look to the office or to an event. Team a floaty blouse with a leather pencil skirt and heels. You’ll look like you mean business, but not like you just stepped off your Harley!
It’s not a look for everyone, and the jury is still out on whether a leather vest is going to work during our sizzling summers (look for light-weight leather options), but it certainly is seriously striking.
Above are some leather-look mini pencil skirts, available from Friends with Jenny (R499, sizes small/medium and medium/large).
