Scents of the Season – Narciso Rodriguez for her

You know a Louboutin when you see the real thing, the same way you can tell a designer suit by the simple tailoring, the fabric and the way it’s been so impeccably finished. Class, style and understated sophistication is what separates the loud and proud wannabes from the ones who appreciate quality, structure and simplicity.

That’s exactly how to describe the new, in fact first, fragrance from the American Cuban fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez for her.

Elegant and classic right from the very beginning.

It may be his first fragrance, but if he can dazzle the senses of the house who backed Issey Miyake and Jean Paul Gaultier, you can bet your bottom dollar that it is’nt’ going to be the last time you hear of Narciso Rodriguez and fine fragrances in the same sentence. His motto is simply; Feel Sexy – Be Classy

“When I approach something, I approach it in a very classic manner, yet it needs to be done in a very new way, either by a cut, a fabric, a precision in the workmanship that makes it new and makes it part of life, still to be worn in 10 years. That, to me, is success.” – Narciso Rodriguez

When I first smelt for her, it was love at first scent. From the chic black bottle, to the pretty and girly pink font that bears the designers name, this is one fragrance that sets a style statement all on its own – and thats before you even get to sample the sensational scent.

I’ll get to the scent just now, but while reading up on this fragrance, its quite interesting to see that the for her bottle is a major expression of Narciso Rodriguez’s creative vision – something that bears his style signature, which is to create something that’s structured with absolute attention to detail and simplicity. Streamlined and architectural, the transparency of the glass adds a mystery to the black heart that holds the precious fragrance.

Inside,a sensual Egyptian musk is at the forefront of for her. This note is closely associated with the designer and has been a part of him since the beginning of his career. A scented oil he applies to his skin and hair, making it his olfactory signature that he carries through to his fragrance. He says “this intoxicating musk oil was a gift from a woman, and it has become a very big part of my life. Musk needed to be the inspiration of my first fragrance”.

Simple. Classic. Elegant

“This fragrance is as much a part of me and my work as any dress that has ever come off my mannequins or any shoe that I have ever sculpted”.
Narciso Rodriguez
