Beauty Review: The Best Summer Foundations

The sun is shining, so it’s time to pack away those heavy foundations. I know you want to look good no matter what the season, so I’ve picked and reviewed my top five summer foundations of the moment (in order) and here they are! Tried, Tested and Loved – of course!

1. BOBBI BROWN TINTED MOISTURIZER COMBINED WITH BOBBI BROWN FOUNDATION STICK
As a combo, Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturizer and Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick is my favourite summer foundation of the moment. On its own, the Tinted Moisturizer offers a nice even tone and gives the skin a nice healthy glow, but the magic happens when you apply the Foundation Stick lightly over it, and only where you need it. This combo is great for both day and night as you can custom build your coverage to suit your look.
My Colour: Medium Tint Moisturizer and 4.5 Foundation Stick

2. CHANEL VITALUMIÈRE AQUA
As a single product on its own, Chanel VITALUMIÈRE Aqua is the ultimate summer skin. You’ll see in the shots below, where I’ve sampled it on my arm, its texture is unlike the others. That’s because it’s not quite the same. The foundation is combined with water to provide a light, almost feathered effect, but at the same time offering you full coverage and blend-ability.
Shake it up and you’ll create the perfect summer foundation.
My Colour: B40

3. ESTEE LAUDER NUTRITIOUS VITA-MINERAL MAKEUP
A fabulous summer product for any girl. Estee Lauder Vita Mineral Foundation offers a light foundation that provides your skin with vital minerals that help it to bounce back from the nasty effects of daily living ie: pollution, free radicals etc. It’s great for day wear and to help even out your skin tone.
My Colour: 3.0

4. CLARINS HYDRA CARE TINTED MOISTURIZER
What I love about the Clarins Hydra Care Tinted Moisturizer is that it gives my skin a boost of moisture and the liquid tint tunrs to an almost powdery finish after a while, giving it a nice flawless finish. It’s great for wearing just before you pop out to the shop and gives you an even tone without too much cover.

5. GUERLAIN LINGERIE DE PEAU FOUNDATION
Light and airy, Guerlain Lingerie de Peau foundation provides good enough cover for day wear and feels like you’ve got nothing on. Perfect for a light veil of foundation just to even out the skin as well.
My Colour: This one featured is a 2 but my colour is a 4

I’m always interested in foundations as my skin is fair, very oily, sensitive and so prone to redness. Foundation is a must for me for all of the above reasons and I always get spots at season changes. I find Chanel, MAC, Estee Lauder and Revlon is too “red” for my particular problem. PMU has the right amount of “yellow” to counteract the redness in my skin. It is available online from http://www.pmu.co.za and you can order testers to get your shade just right. They also do day workshops around the country so you can learn how to do your own make-up and its a great day out with some girlfriends. I use their matte foundation and creme foundation.
