Gimmie Red hot hair

A couple of weeks ago, I decided it was time to change this boring old brown hair into something edgy, something stylish and something super cool for winter. Having been numerous shades of brown before and even blond, I decided to go for red. Red, ala Kate Walsh (The Practice).

Her colour is rich and luxurious – perfect for stepping out in Autumn don’t you think? For mine, I also wanted to add a little vooma with different colours to give it texture. Now, as my hair is very fine and flat, I have started to really hate highlighting it, especially on top. Every time I go for highlights I think it looks as though my hair is falling out in patches. Not a good look!

The lovely Louise (Thurlow), from Zephyr Hair Design in Gillits (Durban) did my colour using the new INOA range from L’Oréal Professionnel. She is amazing! Before my colour I explained to her that I really did not want to have “patchy” looking hair and instead of highlighting it on the top, what Louise did is highlight the bottom section of hair only. Now I know this probably sounds a little weird, but when my hair is down, little glimmers of golden highlights appear, but the top of my hair is a rich and luxurious red.

I think this might just be the only technique of highlighting I ever do! It’s been a few weeks since I had my colour done and I don’t feel as though my hair is “falling out”. Quite the opposite actually, my hair still looks full and textured with gorgeous colour.

Now, let me tell you a bit about INOA. INOA from L’Oréal Professionnel has been dubbed “the hair colour of the future”.

INOA revolutionizes hair colour by getting rid of the ammonia (old school ingredient for colouring) and has developed a new procedure to perfecting colour. The secret is an unprecedented system rich in oil that maximizes the efficiency of active colouring ingredients.

This unique formulation system makes it possible to use an alkaline agent other than ammonia, providing it with lightening properties never before achieved at this concentration. The result? A new generation, odourless hair colour. Long lasting, pure colour that respects the hair.

I love the colour, its super intense and besides a little scalp tingling here and there (apparently only some get this), it feels great on.

For my at-home care, I’ve been using Wella System Professional Colour Save Shampoo, Conditioner and Mask range.

This range has been designed specifically for colour treated hair. The formula is packed with the first 3D Protect technology, giving it vibrant colour for longer.

Prices for this range; R207.48 for the shampoo, R228.00 for the conditioner and R256.50 for the mask and are available from Wella Salons.

If you’re in Durban, I’d highly recommend you visit Louise Thurlow at Zephyr Hair Design in Gillits (above Harley Davidson) on 7 Old Main Road. She’s trained in London and has worked all over Europe (including London and Greece) and is simply put, amazing!

Louise can be reached on 031 767 0848/9
