Oh, how I love Christmas. All the beautiful goodies coming from all my favourite cosmetic houses. And this one from Chanel has got to be one of my faves.
I’ve always loved Chanel makeup and think of it as my “treat makeup”, so when I got to test drive some of the new goodies in the 2011 Christmas collection, I was over the moon!
This collection is a symphony of red, gold and light. Majestic and refined. Gold adds a sumptuous touch to delightful festivities.
Beautiful eye shadows, sparkling powers (my fave of the lot), ivory, black, golden beige and red are at the forefront of this collection. Creative Director of CHANEL makeup Peter Phillips, used all the iconic colours of the house of CHANEL and I think Coco would be proud.
In fact, Coco Chanel is very much part of this collection. Other than the name of course, the shimmer powder, LUMIÈRE SCULPTÉE DE CHANEL was inspired by a photo of a belt buckle that the Mademoiselle herself wore in the 1930’s. How cool is that? And how amazing does it look? I’m almost too scared to use the powder in the fear of ruining it’s exquisite design.
But it is such a gorgeous powder, that I kind of feel as though I’m in catch 22 situation. It leaves the skin feeling radiant and glowing. I love using it above my bronzing powder on my cheekbones – we are after all just about into summer – and it really adds that nice angelic touch.
In the powders range there is also the POUDRE UNIVERSELLE LIBRE. I didn’t get to try this one, but it is a delicate pink powder that is ideal for evening lighting.
For the eyes…
The collection includes LIGNE EXTRÊME, a highlighting pen that is applied to the base of the lower lashes. It radiates light, drawing attention to the eyes.
There are also three eyeshadow variations. The double compact cream shadow and luminous shadow combo, OMBRE CONTRASTE DUO. One side is a creamy black and the other a luminous light shade of ivory.
Two single eyeshadow compacts, OMBRE ESSENTIELLE in BLAZING GOLD and BEIGE LAMÉ. I got to try the BEIGE LAMÉ and love it. It’s highly pigmented and I love the multicoloured sparkles that look amaze!
For the lips…
There are two gorgeous lip glosses, LÈVRES SCINTILLANTES, in two must have shades. One is an elegant nude shade with slightly sparkled effects called SWEET BEIGE, and the other, the one I got to try, SPARKLE D’OR is a sheer shade with golden facets. I love using this one, even on it’s own, its beautiful!
There two ROUGE ALLURE lipsticks with a second skin effect. FAMOUS, a vibrant red with a dash of shocking pink and ENIVRÉE, an elegant pink warmed with gold.
Something different, ROUGE ALLURE LAQUE adorns the lips with a graphic effect using a cream texture, lacquered shine applicator. The colour, EMPIRE indulges in the charm of a gold-speckled rosewood. MMM!
Lastly in lips, is the ROUGE ALLURE EXTRAIT DE GLOSS, a super shiny, intense gloss. The shade is the original TRIOMPHAL, a vibrant red that’s both playful and glam!
And the nails…
Well, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a brand new Chanel LE VERNIS nail polish under the tree. Last year it was the gorgeous Chanel Pulsion, a hot pink that I’m still loving right now! This year, ROUGE CARAT sets off the golden and pearly harmonies of the collection.
As with all Chanel nail polishes, this one is amazing, long lasting and goes on with one coat! The colour is red with sparkly bits, but don’t think glitter! The sparkle is soft, sophisticated and subtle – the epitome of Chanel.
The full collection will be available on counters from the 7th November 2011.
