Shopping at Zara

Yippie! I got to shop at Zara Sandton City this weekend and it was fab! Like so many of you, I’ve been waiting for this brand to come to South Africa and I’m so glad it’s finally here.

I was in Jozi for an 85th Birthday, but my hubby, being the best hubby there is, made sure we squeezed in some time to head to Sandton City. We woke up before the crack of dawn to catch and early flight, landed at OR Tambo at about 9 and went to Sandton City after picking up my mom in law’s car.

I know ZARA is coming to Durban next, I’ve seen the store front so it’s a definite, but I don’t have an official date for them yet. Regardless, I couldn’t wait, so I was glad to be able to visit the very first ZARA in South Africa.

Their clothes are beautiful. I already own a few pieces, that my mom sent me from overseas and the quality is really good. I heard mixed reactions about the price; some said it was reasonable others expensive. Whhhhaaat? Their prices are very good! Very reasonable and I’m actually quite surprised that they were so affordable. They do have some items that are more expensive, like jackets for R999, but when you consider how beautiful the jacket is and the quality of the fabric and cut etc, it’s a great deal. I’ll definitely be shopping there more often.

The only thing I was slightly disappointed with, was that I couldn’t find any pretty tops in my size. They are having a sale right now at the Sandton store and all the smalls have been snapped up. I did however, find loads of cute denim skinny’s and leggings and a beautiful pair of black pants.

One of the items I have been hunting for is pair of gorgeous red skinny jeans. I have tried a few, but nothing that I loved. I found a pair that was perfect at ZARA, with a cute little ankle zip. I couldn’t believe my luck! And to make it even better, they were on sale (from R399 to R299). I think a bigger size would have been better, but they were all out of 10’s and it was the last size 8 so I bought it. They fit, but are super tight, so no chocolate for me for a while!

Who ever says that ZARA is overpriced should just look at this top. I picked it up for R99.95 – and that’s the normal price, not on sale! A great quality, 100% cotton tee. And it’s not made in China! This one is made in Portugal.

I also snapped up these cute skinny fit black pants. They also have cute little zips at the ankle and this pair fits like a (perfect) glove! Just to show you again how reasonable their prices are, this pair cost me R329.

I love live in skinny jeans and jeggings. Most of the ones I have are very plain, standard denim colour with no detail, so I was happy to find these cuties in the TRF denim department. They were R329 each (normal price) and I bought a red and stone grey colour.

I can’t wait to wear em all, but more importanly, now I really can’t wait for the Gateway store to open!

Have you shopped at Zara Sandton City? What did you buy and how did you find the selection, prices and quality etc?

Had the pleasure of experiencing the brand abroad and I love it. Thank you for allowing us to live vicariously through you. Cape Town branch should be opening at the V&A Waterfront May or June *fingers crossed*

Oh my gawd! Same zara red pants here 🙂 I have the euro size 36 and I wish I get the euro size 34= 24 inches. Yes it’s super tight fit at the bottom and I love it but it’s (a bit) loose in my waistline, like an inch or two.. Oh well, still A+ hot pants 😉 I am from Philippines and bought it for ₱2,499. It’s equivalent to ZAR549.03 Yeah, Zara is a lil expensive here in my country. But it’s all good ;))
