One on one with Kelly Esterhuyse

1. How does it feel now that your range is finally a reality?

I am feeling incredibly elated that my range is finally being released into stores. It has actually been a lifelong dream to get a range out into a retail store, and it is now coming true J eeeeeeek!!

2. What do you think are the key items in your range?

I would say my key items are the printed blazer, printed pants and the yellow high-low hem sleeveless shirt.

3. If you were an animal, what would you be?

If I were an animal I would be an eagle.

4. Who is your fashion icon local or international, and why? My fashion icon is Sandra Buckland, she is incredible with architectural knits and I admire her skills and vision with yarn.

5. Do you have a favourite book?I wish I had a favourite book, I don’t remember ever finishing a book? Oops

6. What do you love the most about being a designer?

What I love about being a designer is that I feel expressive in my work and I feel incredibly privileged that my job is something that I love and am able to do every day.

7. Do you have a secret guilty pleasure?

My secret guilty pleasure is onion marmalade, I’m obsessed!

8. If your house were on fire, what would you take with you? If my house were on fire I would take my laptop with me (my photos are all on there, years and years of memories and shoots)

10. What is the biggest lesson you have learnt since winning the Elle Rising Star Design Award last year?

The biggest lesson I have learnt since winning the ELLE New Talent is that it is what YOU make of the title. It is important to make the most of the title in all ways possible and to be organised and PUNCTUAL. Most of all, be true to yourself and your brand.
