A few days ago I was invited to attend the Luxottica Days showcase at the Oysterbox Hotel in Durban. A day filled with sunglasses and a chance for me to check out some of the fabulous range of sunglasses on offer this season.
The event is like one big, fat, indulgent sunglass party! Picture being surrounded by beautiful shades and you get to try-on any and every SINGLE pair your heart desires! I also got a first look at the new to South Africa Giorgio Armani sunglasses; Giorgio and Emporio Armani, which I’ll tell you more about soon, so keep an eye on StyleScoop.
Now, if you know me at all (or read my blog), you’ll know that “I enjoy the little things in life… Shoes, Handbags and (instead of Jewelry) Sunglasses!” A girl can never have too many pairs of fabulous shades.

Versace Aviators! These are so bling-bling-boom-boom! I feel like a star in these shades!
As it is, I live in my Ray-Ban Classic Aviators or my Ray-Ban Semi-Rimless Aviators. I’ve got the smaller frames in both as the standard size just looks dorky on me. These Versace’s however, are bigger than my Ban’s, but the shape is nicer than the bigger Ray-Ban aviator. It’s a little more rounded on my face and the top of the frame has a bigger gap, making that solid bar appear not so prominent.
I totally love the gold frame and pitch black lens, but my fave feature is how the temple sticks out just a bit on the edge, finishing it off with a nice gold square.
A little bit on the sporty side, gotta love these Prada’s with bold red temples!
Can you tell I’m a Prada fan? Best lenses ever! Now these new styles aren’t exactly “me” and as much as I wish they were – I tried them on but just looked ridic – some lucky buggers are able to pull off this thicker frame look.
I fell in love with the little flower decals on the outside of the prescription glasses and the pretty flower prints on the inner temple of the sunglasses.
Ahhh, Ray-Bans! Always in style! Check out some of the options you now have if you’re a fan of the classic Ray-Ban Aviator.
Now we’re really talking! Chanel! Oh, la la, Chanel! You make my heart melt with these gorgeous freshwater pearl sunglasses! How amazing!
This sunglass style is “SO CHANEL” – understated elegance that doesn’t need to be over the top or in your face. What I love most about these sunnies is how amazing the little flash of pearls looks as you turn your head. Talk about a head turner!
Another beauty to look out for from Chanel is this eye catching Collection Bijou which has a filigree design on the temple. Lust!
Now let’s talk about my favourite brand of sunnies! Bvlgari! My hubby bought me my first pair of Bvlgari’s about four years ago and I’d have to admit that they are still my fave pair of sunglasses. They never seem to date and surprisingly keep their value! I can’t afford (or even dream of) Bvlgari jewels, so whenever I wear my Bvlgari sunglasses, I feel kinda fancy!
Spotted these and was like OH-EM-GEE! The design on the temple is like snakeskin, and althogh I tend to stick to more standard sunglass colours (black, brown, black, black, black or brown) these have a bit of a blue vibe going on that I could definitely see myself in (one day when I’m big).
Here’s the same “style” in a more subtle version! You like? I think the first pair is more eye catching!
Of course, I have saved the best for last! Come to mama baby Bvlgari! Now these are sunglasses! As soon as I put these babies on, I was like OK, the other sunglasses here are nice, but nothing beats this pair!
When the lovely Jayde from Luxottica showed me these, she turned the temple around and put it to her ear, to show me how they are made to resemble a specific pair of Bvlgari earrings. What were we just saying! I can’t afford the Bvlgari jewels, so these sunglasses spoke to me in so many languages, and I understood all of them, Oui, Oui, Si, Si!
Aren’t they just banging!? Papa-Papa-Razzi!
Jayde (from Luxottica) is one of the few people I know that can pull off any style of sunglasses! Every pair she puts on looks amazing on her. It kinda makes me a little jealous! Here she is rocking a pair that looks amazing! I tell you, I’d kill this chick to steal her job if I didnt love her so much!
