Fire & Ice Cape Town

Earlier this month, the hubz and I headed over to Cape Town to watch Bon Jovi! What an amazing concert – dude can still rock out! Not bad for a 51 year old man – although he still looks like he’s in his 30’s!

On the day of the concert, we stayed at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice in Cape Town – A trendy hotel set in the heart of the Mother City!

The Hotel features trendy and modern luxury rooms that have everything you need for a comfortable stay.

For a more stylish stay, you can opt for one of the superior rooms, superior patio rooms or for the real trend setters, the executive suites look like a treat.

We got to stay in one of the Superior Patio Rooms. A comfortable room that had an extra large king-size bed, LCD flat screen, air-conditioning as well as a shower and vanity that was separated by a curtain. The loo was in it’s own separate room behind the basin.

One of the added features, was the private patio.

The private patio makes a huge difference! It not only extends the space, but it’s really nice to sit outside and have a cup of coffee in the morning, taking in the crisp Cape Town air.

Leading up to the Superior Patio rooms, you pass the pool deck and indoor pool-lounge area. This is a great looking space, beautifully decorated and perfect for a little R&R!

I loved the decor of this area so much, I could move right in!

Adjacent to our room was the hotel swimming pool.

If you had a peek through our enclosed balcony, you could get a glimpse of the pool.

At night time, they light up the lanterns so you can take a midnight dip or just relax on one of the loungers. To be honest, we were so flat out tired trying to keep up to Bon Jovi, we just went straight to bed. But I thought that lounging outside at night would have been a nice novelty.

I really loved the surf board decor that “closed off” the pool area, making it pleasing to look at instead of a brick wall! On the opposite side of the swimming pool, you could step out and enjoy views of table mountain. Again, loved the surf boards!

If you’re planning on ordering room service, I highly recommend you order the Ménage à trois dessert. I’m an absolute pudding addict and I always have a tough time choosing just one from the menu. This little genius dessert has three minature treats, including; cheesecake, chocolate brownie, malva pudding and ice cream. Perfect bite sizes to satisfy your sweet tooth! Their buggers are pretty delicious too!

Our stay included a fully loaded Continental Breakfast, which had all the options and was delish! The breakfast area, although large, seemed a bit cramped. I did love the decor of it, especially the “laundry” hanging outside and the  fishes that swim behind you as you have your breakfast.

It’s a really “cool” hotel and they’ve brought this cool factor into the hotel decor. The entrance is grand, the lifts are awesome (beware of the sharks). Other really cool features are the hotel toilets downstairs – each one decorated in a unique setting, as well as the smoking room, which is called “The Coughing Room”. It has coffins instead of tables and chairs which although a little freaky, make for a really clever concept!

The hotel is super close to one of my fave places in CT, Long Street – which is literally around the corner. Right next door to the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice is an adventure place that can book all sorts of activities for you as well as arrange transfers anywhere in CT.
