My 5 Favourite Mascaras of the Moment

mascara-faves-wandsMascara is just one of those things, you can never have enough of!

I am constantly changing the ones I use, but I do have a few current faves and find myself using these five mascara’s the most.

Here they are in no particular order of favourites, since I love them all – just as much and for different reasons…

Lancôme Hypnôse Star

This is a fantastic everyday mascara for me. What I like is how it evens out my lashes and makes them look more defined. It also adds just enough length for every day wear.

It keeps my lashes spaced out, coating and defining each one individually.

The formula lasts all day and doesn’t run at all – so again, a perfect, every day mascara and I love the curved tube and sparkle on it.

Lancôme Hypnôse Drama

I’ve had my Hypnose Drama mascara for ages. Surprisingly, I’ve had it since March last year (when I reviewed it on StyleScoop) and although I don’t use it every day, it hasn’t dried out in nearly two years – that’s pretty impressive.

This mascara is fab for giving my lashes length and fabulous volume. I absolutely love the wand – it’s shaped perfectly for the shape of my eyes and in just two coats, my lashes are transformed into caterpillar-esque lashes.

It dries super quick and stays put all day.

Le Volume de Chanel Mascara

This mascara from Chanel is one of their recent launches (it launched in May this year) and it is such a fab mascara, that it initially came out in three shades (black, blue and violet). A fourth (Khaki Bronze) was added (and I have a feeling that there will be more colours still to come).

I have the Khaki Bronze and the Black and love them both. The black is solid, bold and is a more intense type of mascara, while the khaki is great for toned down lash volume, that looks natural, but at the same time, accentuates your lashes.

I love the length, texture and the volume it gives my lashes.

The brush has a combination of short and long bristles, as well as a flexible wand, that allows you to coat every single lash with minimal effort.

The formula is really great and thanks to the Acacia gum, the product almost glues to the lashes so that it lasts and lasts and lasts. No smudging and quick drying.

YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils in 5, Burgundy

I love using this mascara when I want to amp up the intensity of my eye colour, and especially when I wear purple eye shadow. I have it in the colour No5 – burgundy)

My eye colour is a greeny-hazel shade and the green really looks intense with purple or burgundy.

Even when I want to wear black on my lashes, I love to use this one on the bottom lashes, just for that extra bit of intensity.

YSL Volume Effect has a triple-film complex, which is basically three layers of awesomeness:

  1. a film to coat the lashes to add intensity
  2. a conditioning film with pro-vitamin B5 and aloe vera for curves and lastly,
  3. a fixing film with a vinyl polymer that gives this mascara a long lasting effect.

Love, love, love!

Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in 57, Blue Note

I was introduced to this mascara in June, when it launched as part of the Chanel Summer 2013 makeup collection. In July I took it with me on my trip to Greece and I really wore it all the time.

It’s a perfect-for-summer mascara, because it lasts all day, is waterproof and it makes your eyes look really open and awake.

I wore it on the beach and didn’t feel like I was wearing any makeup. At night, I layered it over my normal black mascara, so that the tips of my lashes were coated in blue. Really loved that result.

I haven’t worn it since I’ve been back, as the colour, for me, is better for a summer’s day – but I can’t wait for this rain to be done with and summer to appear so that I can wear more of it!

What are some of your favourite mascaras? And how many different ones do you use at the same time?

Comment below, I’d love to know if I’m missing out on any other good ones.

I wear Dior Iconic and I am obsessed, I always get asked if I have fake lashes on! I do like the look of the Chanel in Blue Note, do you know how much it retails for?
