On Sunday, the hubz and I spent the day at the Durban Botanic Gardens (thanks to East Coast Radio), enjoying the sweet sounds of The Kickstands and Just Jinger, performing live at the beautiful gardens.
Beautiful setting – check! Beautiful music – check! Beautiful weekend – check!
Local Durban band, The Kickstands, opened up for Just Jinjer. It was the first time I heard these guys, but man, does the lead singer have an amazing voice!
Just Jinger, were epic! Although I have seen Ard Matthews perform solo, I hadn’t seen Just Jinjer live before, and this was a real treat, since they were one of my favourite bands growing up in the 90’s – “my cool years” haha!
It was nice to see them together for this performance, and I still think that Just Jinjer’s version of “Sugarman” is the best version yet! Even better than the original! My all time fave song from them, would have to be Shallow Waters – of course! It’s absolutely beautiful!
These concerts, which are thanks to Old Mutual & The Durban Botanic Gardens, happen quite regularly (I was at the Gangs of Ballet one for Valentine’s Day) and they are really fun. It’s basically a day of fun-in-the-sun, where you bring along a blanket and your picnic basket and just chill on the grass and enjoy different musical acts.
This year, the Old Mutual Music at the Lake series has already included; Gangs of Ballet, The Kickstands and Just Jinger, but there are still loads more to enjoy. Like MiCasa on the 6th April, Mango Groove on the 11th May, The Parlotones on the 8th June and Johnny Clegg on the 19th October.
Thanks so much to East Coast Radio!
