I always wanted to go to London. So when I found out I’d be traveling to London with River Island, a hot British fashion brand new to SA, I was over the moon!
There was a lot I wanted to see, but there just wasn’t enough time to see it all. However, I did manage to squeeze in a few sights, a traditionally Brit Fish & Chips din-din and some shopping!
The highlight of my trip no doubt, was visiting the River Island headquarters (check out my post and video here) and also attending their “RIxmas14” – Christmas in July press preview – which I’ll show you guys more of next week.
For today’s post, I wanted to share a small photo diary of my trip. Going through these pics makes me want to go back all over again!
London is such a buzzing, beautiful place. Even walking the streets is an amazing sight seeing experience!
I love the old buildings, the fact that people walk – I’ve never walked so much in my life! And just the atmosphere in general.
One of the things I really wanted to see was the “Coco Chanel Lampposts”. I read about the legend of these, I think in Camilla Morton’s, “How to Walk in High Heels” and remember thinking I have to see that.
Apparently back in the 1920’s, the Duke of Westminster had such an obsession with Gabrielle Chanel, that he ordered her infamous double C logo adorn all the Lampposts in the city of Westminster. And everywhere you look, the Logo is there.
I took hundreds of pics of these, and I’m pretty sure people must’ve thought I was bananas.
I just loved seeing such a beautiful, romantic gesture from nearly 100 years ago still standing.
The one sight on my “list” was Kensington Palace Gardens. A friend tagged a pic of the gardens on my Instagram and I had, had, had to see it.
I admit, I was a little nervous going on the tube (all by myself self-conscious lonesome) and not sure exactly what I was going do there alone, but it turned out to be a great idea. I just wished I brought along my big boy camera as every turn was a picture perfect moment.
It was a scorching hot day and the park leading up to the palace gardens was packed with people enjoying the sunshine. The palace gardens are a must see. You will literally want to spend all day there just admiring the beautiful outdoors.
I spent a good few hours there and enjoyed a yummy ice cream to beat the heat. A pair of flip flops and shorts (instead of my ballet flats and jeans) and a picnic blanket would’ve made it a perfect day.
London, I love you and I’m coming back for more!
A big, huge, massive thanks to River Island, Edcon and Phatic Communications for making it all possible – who says a girl’s dreams can’t come true?
