Review: Urban Decay Afterdark Eyeshadow Palette

Just when I thought I was content with my makeup collection, along came this gorgeous Urban Decay Afterdark Eye shadow Palette and it’s safe to say, we are in love!

It’s dreamy and beautiful! And I’m not just talking about the prettiest box you’ve ever seen (unicorn dreams anyone?), but the jewel inspired shadows inside are so beautiful, so versatile and they last all day (and all night) long!

The colour selection is just my cup of tea – bright, beautiful and totally wearable. I’ve been using the entire top row as well as the bottom shades, Druggie and Backfire on repeat!

I still need to get into the greens and blues in the bottom corner – but I’ve been feeling very Autumny with my makeup lately. The top row and bottom two shades are perfect for fall shades.

The thing I love most about these shadows is that they are super pigmented, which results in long lasting, velvety colour, that although has shimmery pigments, is not shimmery if you know what I mean?

Texture wise, they remind me a lot of MAC’s Mineralize eyeshadows and pigment pots, where the shimmer payoff is glossier and slicker, rather than the powdery finish of traditional shimmers.

And the colours! Ohh the glorious colours!

The first one that stood out for me was Supersonic – a brick red that really brings out the green in my eyes. I’m also loving Sinful which is an golden bronze shade. The two actually work wonders together when you apply Sinful to the crease, and Supersonic on the mobile lid.

Then, if you want to amp up your look for a night out, I like to add a bit of a sultry seduction to the outer corners of my eyes with Off Duty and finish with a touch of brow highlight using Alter.

The brush that comes with the palette is also amazing! I actually noticed that all my Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes have really good quality brushes! A rare thing for a palette. They are so good that I’ve taken all my UD brushes out of their palettes so I can use them as part of my brush collection.

I have to kick my Naked 3 palette off it’s podium because Urban Decay Afterdark eyeshadow palette has become my number one palette from UD. Naked 3 is now sitting in second place :).

The one downside I will say about this palette is that it’s impossible to keep it looking pretty (the inside that is) because the metallic shades can get quite messy as you use them. Nonetheless, it doesn’t really bother me, especially because the colours are so beautiful, however I don’t think I would like to travel with it too much.

Do you need it? Of course you do!

R850 for x10 B-E-A-utiful shades and a good quality brush is a great deal!

Would you use the colours?

Well why not? These shades compliment every eye colour under the sun!

However, if you feel they are too colourful, the next time you’re at Urban Decay playing with the makeup, try out one of the bolder colours on your lid and make sure you ask the makeup artists there to define your eye with Urban Decay’s 24/7 Waterproof liner in Rail.

Whenever I do a coloured lid look, it only really looks AMAZING after I’ve defined my eyes with black liner, or grated my waterlines with a dark, dark brown and finished with mascara.

This little trick just makes bright eyeshadows pop while defining your eyes and bringing them to life.
