I never pass up the opportunity to dine in style and when you add award winning speciality steaks and delicious wine to the mix, it is a match made in foodie heaven. We recently enjoyed a night of glorious food at The Hussar Grill at The Grove, and if you haven’t been yet, be sure to add this spot to your list of places to dine out.
Beautiful decor; mirrored walls lined with wine racks and stacked with a collection of old Reader’s Digest books. It’s elegant and chic with plush, quilted chair backs and tables draped in crisp white linen.View Post
One of the downsides of living in South Africa (as apposed to Europe) is that we can’t jump in our Fiat 500 or take short plane ride to have breakfast in Italy.
But, we can still get a taste of the Italiano Felicità and Mama Mia of authentic Italian style dining right here in South Africa.
Of course I’m talking about Old Town Italy. With branches at Menlyn Maine and Umhlanga, this my friends is as close to Italy as we can get without leaving South African soil – and if you haven’t been, you’re missing out!View Post
Pretoria friends of ours suggested we go for lunch “in their hood” to the vibey Culture Club Tapas Bar this past Sunday, and I felt like I had discovered a whole new world of awesome dining experiences!
Nestled in a really cool restaurant strip called “The Villiage” in Hazelwood, this spot was such a great find! We had the best food, the best service and honestly, such a chilled and relaxed noon-into-dusk Sunday, it made me feel like I was back in Europe!View Post
If you’re looking for something super cool to try this weekend, I’ve got you covered! Just put on your cowboy boots (ok, you don’t really need cowboy boots) and head North to Mustang Sally’s, the coolest, retro, pub and diner Gauteng has ever seen!
It’s off the charts! With milkshakes that will blow your mind, and food that’s so yummy and loaded, you probably won’t have room for dessert!View Post
When was the last time you jumped in your car and drove? No plans, no map and no idea where you’re headed? Those “let’s see where the open road takes us” opportunities are rare, but when they happen, that’s when you find the best best kept secrets! I spent last week, just like that. Driving around in the new Ford Mustang, with no set plan and just seeing where the road leads. One of those roads (and there were many), led me to the coolest retro styled Roadhouse, where I found the best milkshakes in Jozi. Growing up in the 90’s, we didn’t have drive through fast food joints and Roadhouses were all the rage. They were also the place to go if you wanted a thick and delicious shake to wash down a seriously loaded burger, or an oozing toasted cheese. Ya know, the ones wrapped in paper with a little gherkin on top? I miss those days! So what an awesome throwback it was to find Kota Joe Roadhouse and get a blast from the past – but this time, in a true American Muscle Car. Back in the day, our parents (or grandparents for some of you) must’ve gotten quite…View Post
If you yearn for a little French flair; the taste of perfectly crisp croissants, marvellous macaroons or mouth watering eclairs, you’ll be happy to know that a trip to France is not the only way to get your fix!View Post
People often complain that Jozi is the concrete jungle and besides going out to dinner, there isn’t much to do in Gauteng. Sure we’re not blessed with sandy beaches, but blue skies, wonderful waters and outdoor adventures are all around us! You just have to step out of your suit and tie every once in a while to experience all the glory that Gauteng has to offer! If you’ve never made the trip up the Hartbeespoort Cableway, do yourself a favour and tick this mesmerizing must-see adventure off your bucket list! I promise you, you will not regret it!View Post
If you don’t have anything planned this weekend, then check out my three favourite burger joints to give you something yummy and fun to do…. Rocomammas – Rivonia Go there for hip vibes, craft beer and a “not so normal burger” Rocomamas have the BEST BURGERS in town! Even more than that, the option to customise your burger (exactly how you want it), and the hip and vibey staff make this a great place to hang while you fill up on good food. The menu concept is pretty cool! You get a form with a whole bunch of options on it, and you basically check the box to customise your creation to your heart’s content! So let’s say you start with a 150g Smashed Beef Burger, then you want to add Blue Cheese Dressing, Pickles, Caramalized Red Onions and lets say Bacon, just check all the options, choose whether you want fries or not and then give it to your waiter. This customization allows you to go a little crazy (if you’re into that), but they also have the option to choose their standard burgers like the Classic Cheese, Old Skool, Bacon Cheese & Guac or the Rock Star. I thought I was…View Post
I am 100%, a city girl! But I do like to day dream about how awesome it must be to live on a farm and ya know, do the whole Country Girl thing… If you’re looking for something a little different, relaxing and outdoorsy to do this weekend, you may just enjoy a trip to Irene Dairy Farm in Centurion. It’s a beautiful, old-style, operational dairy farm that started way back in 1895. You can go there for a morning outing and enjoy a meal, walk around amongst the dairy cows (the white ones are massive, you won’t believe how big until you see them), say hi to the swans (there’s a beautiful black swan too), or admire old, rustic random things like the vintage petrol pump. The Dairy Shop has T-H-E most delicious Double Thick real GREEK yoghurt! And trust me when I say real! I’ve tasted the Greek Yoghurt in Greece and nothing has even come close until now. Granted, it’s pricey as heck, but absolutely worth every mouth watering spoonful. Their bottled milkshakes and goats cheese Feta are pretty amazing too! If you’re planning on having breakfast or lunch, there are two restaurants to choose from. We tried…View Post
On the weekend, the hubs and I headed out to explore Jozi, and more specifically, Jozi’s hottest Mexican restaurant, Perron. Based in Illovo, this Mexican gem is a hot spot for fabulous food and a must visit if you’re in the area. Bright and colourful, it’s feisty and funky and once you’ve experienced their Churros (aka Mexican doughnuts) you’ll save the location to your Waze account, and keep going back for more. The style of dining at Perron is just up my alley. You can either order a “meal” or snack on a bunch of tasty (not-so) little tappas (alone or with your entourage). So if you’re unsure about what to order, these offer a great way for you to get the whole Mexican experience in bite sized options. Their cocktail menu is also pretty interesting, with a different offering to the traditional fun drinks. Border Crossing, Chico, Negroni, Lime Mojito and Smoked Mexican Old Fashioned are some of the choices, but I went for the Delicias de Fruta. A raspberry vodka cocktail with orange liqueur, melon liqueur, pineapple juice and cranberry juice. It was perfect for a hot summer’s day in the city! For our meals, hubby went for a “real meal” – Sizzling Steak which…View Post
If you’re in Durban and looking for a great place to have brunch on a lazy Sunday morning, look no further than the Arts Café in Glenwood, Durban. A fabulous venue with a fabulous menu! They make the most amazing Eggs Benedict you’ve ever tasted! A perfect recipe, made with just the right amount of Hollandaise sauce, so that you can still taste the other ingredients. I’m all about fabulous food that looks and tastes good, but I also like to taste the different flavours and textures of the meal. Their Eggs Benedict is definitely a winner. I tried the spinach, while my other (and better) half, had the salmon on Sunday and we both agree, they are the best we’ve had! Cooked to perfection, so that when you “dig in” and cut the egg, the yolk pours out, while the egg whites stay firm and properly cooked. While you’re there you simply have to try their Spanish coffee. It’s coffee served in a glass (as apposed to a cup or mug) and flavoured with citrus and cinnamon! Mmmm! Totally unique and a must for all coffee lovers. The Arts Café is trendy and has a lovely atmosphere. Whenever we’ve…View Post
