The last of our #BeautyConfessions, today’s one from Kelli Clifton, Beauty Assistant at FairLady Magazine How did you get started in the beauty industry? After interning at various magazines in many different departments for over two years, including FAIRLADY (twice), I interned in the Beauty Department and simply fell in love with it. After the beauty assistant at the time left, I decided to apply for the job and here I am today! Almost a year later! What’s the best thing about your job? Seeing your name in the byline of a story, being able to test fabulous products, communicating with fantastic clients who represent iconic brands, attending beauty launches, and lastly, living out my passion, which is beauty. We have another confession for you today, and it comes from Pippa Alcock, Beauty Editor at Woman & Home Magazine… How did you get started in the beauty industry? I started as a fashion assistant, moved onto the grooming pages, then into PR where I worked on a few beauty clients, and finally to beauty editing. What’s the best thing about your job? Attending fab launches with my fellow beauties, interviewing international beauty ambassadors, getting real insight into a multi-billion dollar industry, shooting gorgeous beauty stories and of course, painting my nails at my desk is part of the job description! What’s the most common questions girls ask you when they find out what you do? “Which skincare range is the best?” Truth is, good skincare is much more than what you put on your face. Confessions of a Beauty Girl – O Magazine’s Chereen Gibson

Today’s beauty confession come from @ChereenGibson, resident Beauty Editor at O, The Oprah Magazine. How did you first get started in the beauty industry? I started out as the junior sub-editor at Woman & Home, and was soon promoted to features writer and travel editor. It was on a press trip to Mauritius that I realised that my passion for all things beauty, combined with my writing ability and creativity, would stand me in good stead to work as a beauty editor – something I’d wanted to do since I was a little girl. I guess my previous editor must have seen it too, as she offered me the position of beauty and health editor in 2009. I’ve since started as the beauty editor at O, The Oprah Magazine, which is a dream come true. I have always dreamt of being on the Oprah show, but never though that I would have the opportunity to work on such a fantastic brand with such a talented, inspiring and supportive team. Aren’t you just loving these Beauty Girl’s Confessions? Today’s confession comes from the proud new mama and gorgeous Beauty Editor at ELLE magazine South Africa, Lynette Botha – @Ms_ELLE_Beauty. Don’t you think she looks just like Kate Hudson? How did you first get started in the beauty industry? I started at ELLE as the features writer, moved to the position of production and sub-editor and the got lured by the pull of beauty when the beauty editor position became available. I haven’t looked back since and strongly believe that everything happens for a reason. What’s the best thing about your job? Being able to be creative on a daily basis. Having the opportunity to conceptualise and execute shoots and features that interest me and ELLE readers. Being fortunate enough to get to test and play with the latest in skincare, make-up and fragrance before any one else. Confessions of a Beauty Girl – Essentials Mags’ Tessa Passmore

Today’s beauty confession is from essentials Magazine‘s Health and Beauty Editor, Tessa Passmore How did you first get started in the beauty industry? I studied at UCT and interned at Marie Claire for a while in Cape Town. I then moved to London and went to Central Saint Martins (a summer school student) where I studied more fashion orientated/ magazine subjects. In London, I interned in the fashion industry, at a PR for Stella McCartney. I returned to South Africa and began working as an intern for essentials. I became a features writer and eventually the Beauty Editor in August 2010. The beauty industry is so exciting and current. Worldwide there is no seasonal difference between products – very different to fashion, which can be quite dated down South here in SA. What’s the best thing about your job? Getting to try great new and exciting products.
