Travel Light with Palmers This Holiday Season

Travel Light with Palmers This Holiday Season

This holiday season, Palmer’s have made it easier for you to travel light, by introducing their amazing products in travel-sized options. The travel-sized products look almost identical to the full sized product, only a miniature, more compact version. I absolutely love this, and the fact that you can pop it into your travel makeup bag and take up virtually no extra space, only makes it that much better. Travel sized Palmer’s are available at Dis-Chem stores nationwide and you can enjoy a smaller, sweeter tub of Palmer’s Coco Butter Formula (30g – R15.50), or one of their 50ml cream options in either Olive Butter Formula, the Original Coco Butter Formula or Coco Butter Formula for men, for only R10 each.

GOSH Cosmetics now Available In South Africa

GOSH Cosmetics now Available In South Africa

There’s a huge buzz in the makeup world, with two international make brands that have just recently launched in South Africa. One of these brands is GOSH Cosmetics. GOSH Cosmetics is a Danish brand that has been around for over 25 years and available in over 78 countries. Known for it’s colourful, edgy and innovative products, the GOSH Cosmetics range is full of fun and inspiration. Comprising of a full range of products, GOSH Cosmetics includes everything from makeup to skin care, nail polishes to fragrances, to professional hair care as well as a full range of bronzing and self tanning products. While you will definitely hear more about GOSH Cosmetics on StyleScoop (we love the range), here’s my take on just some of the goodies I got to try out right now. Natural Touch Foundation (R180) This is a great foundation for summer. While it’s rich and creamy, it feels super light on the skin. It’s got an SPF of 8 and coloured with silicon mineral pigments that give your skin a natural finished tone. Coverage wise, I found it okay for everyday. It’s fairly long lasting and definitely feels like you’ve got nothing on. It’s great for days when you want to look polished, but not look as…

Kiss From A Jolie Rose

Kiss From A Jolie Rose

I am getting super excited about all the lovely new, light and floral fragrances launching for Spring. One of them, Azzaro Jolie Rose which comes in this beautiful pink bottle with an over sized pink “rose” lid. So pretty! A sparkling fragrance composed by Daphne Bugey of Firmenich, Jolie Rose evokes life, colour, softness and femininity. It’s a powdery blend of flowers with zesty, velvety fruits that rest on a musky-woody base. The top note is orchestrated by bright, bursting accents of citron and kumquat with tangy notes of blackcurrant. The heart is a shower of rose petals blended with violet and the transparent freshness of the pink water lily. While the base notes comprise of a vibrant and woody cedar and white musk. It’s a true girly-girl fragrance that brightens your day and enhances your mood! Price: R315 (30ml EDT) and R495 (50ml EDT) What’s your favourite scent for Spring 2012?

Shop of the Week Woolies Gel EyeLiner Pencils

Shop of the Week Woolies Gel EyeLiner Pencils

I heard about these pencils from one of the girls in my makeup class and am now totally hooked! I used to swear by MAC Graphblack retractable eyeliner because it was a solid, solid black. But, after mine broke without even being half used, I did’nt want to spend money on buying the same one again. I much prefer a pencil that you can sharpen as apposed to a retractable pencil, but hadn’t found any that offered such an intense black. I was so glad to hear about Woolworths’ Gel EyeLiner pencil and even more stoked to discover that it comes in different shades. I bought myself a black one and a golden one called blonde. The black is my absolute fave! It goes on really black and doesn’t smudge all day long.  The pencil tip is super soft, so you only need to press very gently to get maximum lines!  I’ve been using it just about every day, and it’s definitely one of those products that will go into my professional makeup kit (one of these days). The best part… each one costs R75.00, so it makes my Shop of the Week today.

Mediterranean Inspiration – Inglot Aqua-Blue Culture

Mediterranean Inspiration – Inglot Aqua-Blue Culture

There is nothing like a summer vacation on the Med!  The gorgeous blue skies and sandy beaches paired with the crystal clear teal and turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea! If you can’t get to the Med to enjoy summer, what better way than to bring the gorgeous colours of the Mediterranean to you? Check out this fantabulous new collection from Inglot called Aqua-Blue Culture. It’s the perfect combination of electric blues with Med inspired greens for eyes and nails, and for the lips, a pop of coral to finish it all off. I got to play with some of the goodies in this collection and absolutely love it! The Nail Enamel (989) is the perfect mix of green and blue. It goes on beautifully and gives your nails a true-to-the-bottle colour, which I love! For the eyes, I got to play with colours 316 (green) and 315 (blue), both of which are vibrant, matte shadows. The combination of these two shadows also create the most electric look, especially when you finish if off with Inglot’s Colour Play Mascara in blue. For the lips, what better way to finish off green and blue eyes with pretty coral lips? Inglot Sleeks Cream in 102 is a lovely light coral that…

Three New Eye Products from Empro

Three New Eye Products from Empro

There’s nothing quite like unwrapping a new range of makeup goodies! I recently got to test drive three new products from Empro, a range that is distributed by Placelol and available at Dream-nails salons nationwide. It’s made by Prof. Coco Alex and has received a number of awards, including the Women’s Weekly Best Beauty Award in 2009 and 2010. Triangular Eyebrow Pencil My fave product of the lot and one that’s currently sitting in my personal makeup kit, is Empro Triangular Brow Pencil. I would have to say that it is probably one of the best eyebrow pencils I’ve used. On the one side it has a brush that helps you get your brows in place before you start shaping them. You can also use the brush to finish off your brows and even out the colour when you’re done. Normally eyebrow pencils are plain old pencils, and the tip isn’t always a great way to shape your brows, especially if you’re fairly new to shaping your brows. This one is triangular which makes it easy to apply thicker and thinner lines where needed. Another great thing about this pencil is that there is no sharpening (yay) and the crayon stays in shape. The colour comes out just right to…

Bath Bliss with Tree Hut

Bath Bliss with Tree Hut

Winter is heading for us in a big way, Brrr! The skies are turning darker and our sunshine bliss is rapidly slowing down! It seems the only way to stay warm and happy these days is to spend as much time soaking in the tub as you would soaking up the sun’s rays on the beach. Yesterday was cold! Yes, even in Durban! So lucky for me, I had some products from TreeHut to brighten up my mood, thanks to the fab peeps at Takealot.com! The Tree Hut range is made in the USA, using unique ingredients such as crushed almonds, Hawaiian Kukui nut oil and coconut shells, to mention a few. Tree Hut products are paraben and DMDM free, and never tested on animals. Now thanks to Takealot – the online store, The Tree Hut range is available to us in SA. Tree Hut Shea Moisturizing Shower Wash This is a lovely, rich and very moisturizing body wash that smells like an exotic paradise! I got to try the Almond and Honey one – mmm! Even without adding moisturizer (as I sometimes don’t when it’s too hot) my skin felt smooth and nourished. I also tend to get skin…

@InglotSA Copper Collection

@InglotSA Copper Collection

Just in time for a glowing Easter, today Inglot launches their decadent “Copper Collection”; a mix of rich, Autumn colours that will make your eyes pop and your lips look more glam than ever! This collection includes two new lipstick shades, two lip glosses, a lovely liquid liner and five gorgeous, highly pigmented freedom eye shadows. You know I’d never recommend you buy anything without first trying it myself, although I do love Inglot products and have never been disappointed – I did get to try out some of the products from this range. Love, love, love em! I dont’ have a copper liquid liner like this, so it’s great to add something new to my collection. With the copper lipstick in 277, I’m more a nude/ pink kinda gal, but this is a great colour for autumn and makes the lips feel great. Lots of colour with just one application. I’ve saved the eye shadows for last! I recently bought two very similar shades at Inglot, but I can totally use these two with them. The golden, lighter one (LK23CL) is my fave. You cant really tell from my swatches (below) but it’s an intense, goldy gold! You have…

Quick Trick – How to make your foundation last

Quick Trick – How to make your foundation last

As it turns out, a flawless finished face doesn’t depend only on what makeup you’ve used, but also the tools that you use to apply your foundation and your application technique. My two favourite ways of applying foundation are with a flat foundation brush, like the MAC 190 or the Sigma F60 Brush, and the other with a stippling/ buffing brush like a MAC 130 or the Sigma F80, Flat Synthetic Kabuki Brush. Sometimes I even use both brushes; the flat foundation brush to apply and then the buffing brush to, well, buff and blend my foundation in! When it comes to tools, I think I’ve nailed it, but I still felt that my foundation “melted” after I applied it. Granted, I do live in Durban and it’s dang hot and humid here, so even straight after I apply my foundation, it’s so hot it feels like my foundation is melting off. That was until I discovered a new trick that I picked up from UK based Makeup Artist and Youtube Vlogger GossMakeupArtist in one of his videos. Short, sweet and to the point this trick really works! Take a look at the video and give it a try! I…
