Wear It Now: The Longline Waistcoat

Wear It Now: The Longline Waistcoat

One of my current obsessions at the moment is the longline vest. Also called a sleeveless waistcoat or sleeveless trench, the only thing you need to know, is that you need it in your life! It’s such an essential piece – great for layering or transitioning into different seasons, and it can be worn in so, so many different ways! It can add structure and form to any look and perfect for layering without the bulk! TREND ALERT: The Biker Jacket

TREND ALERT: The Biker Jacket

The biker jacket, whether you opt for genuine leather or pleather (faux leather), can help you to create a multitude of stylish looks this winter. It’s also a great staple item for your autumn-into-winter wardrobe, that can be worn with just about anything! Give your look the EDGE by combining a chic biker jacket with trendy pieces such as textured leggings and ankle booties, or work the biker jacket into SWEET outfit as your inspiration. One thing I really love is the edginess and toughness of leather or pleather jacket worn with something girly, like florals. That combo goes really well together. Try it out! Inside my Closet… with Superficial Girls

Inside my Closet… with Superficial Girls

Spring is the perfect time to clean out and re-organize your closet! To help motivate you, we’ve asked some stylish fashionistas to take us inside their closet. This week, we’re taking you inside the closet of local fashion style blogger, Carlinn from Superficial Girls. We’re absolutely hooked on this girl’s amazing style, so we were just as excited to peek inside her closet. Take a look… Tell us a bit about your closet I used to have a whole room that I used as a closet and makeup room when I lived in Malta, but when we moved back to Cape Town space was definitely an issue, so I had to come up with some very creative ways to store my clothes, shoes and jewelry! At the moment I have all my jackets in one cupboard, dresses and shirts in another and then tees, jeans, shorts and skirts are all folded. I rotate my clothing with the seasons and I also have a clothing rail in the garage, where I keep some of things that I don’t wear that often. My shoes are all sorted by style or color and I showcase some of my more “special pairs” in the dining area…

Somebody Call A Doctor…

Somebody Call A Doctor…

I think I’m getting a fever! Dr Martens… are back in! Doc’s are just one of those items that will keep coming back in fashion – kinda like bell bottoms, bad eighties hairstyles and plastic fantastic accessories. Makes me regret lending my pair of 10 ups (yes they were quite rare) to a “friend” who never returned them! Grrr! If you’re reading this, I want my friggin shoes back! I lived in my Doc’s – I seriously remember wearing them every single day for about two years solid, and they never came apart. I was so hooked on them that I bought another pair in oxblood – remember those? – despite them being two sizes too big. Needless to say I was young and stupid and I wore them. Those buggers I do still have, but I doub’t I’ll be rocking boat feet anytime soon! What do you think? Would you wear them? Take our poll below or add your comments at the end. For now, here are some cool styles of Doc’s and how fashion bloggers are rocking them… White Docs? Ruby Red anyone?   Classic Black? [poll id=”59″]

Front Row with Amber Jones

Front Row with Amber Jones

Living in Durban and married to the love of her life, with a bulldog named Dennis and a Boston Terrier named Frank, Amber Jones is a fashion icon, designer and the quirky, retro-cool chick behind the blog, Thunder in Our Hearts. Amber lives and breathes fashion with an insanely obsessive addiction to magazines. If she was’nt in fashion, Amber reckons she’d probably have been a florist in another life. In this week’s Front Row With series we chat with Amber on her second line (launched recently in Mr Price), find out what defines style and what you need if you want to break into fashion… Your blog, thunderinourhearts.com is filled with cool content that inspires and excites you, tell us a bit about how you came up with the name Thunder In Our Hearts? I heard the lyrics of a Kate Bush song and then found an insane tote bag on Fieldguided with the words printed onto it. Most often for me seeing something my eye finds really pleasing has a physical feeling attached to it – think it feels a bit like Thunder… How did you get started in fashion? I studied a BA Hons in fashion at Linea Academy…

Front Row with: Superficial Girls

Front Row with: Superficial Girls

Lately, I’ve been hooked Carlinn’s blog Superficial Girls. She’s a local (Cape Town Girl) blogger who posts outfit blogs, almost every day. If she’s not posting her outfit photo’s she showing her fave beauty products, DIY fashion accessorizing projects and well, just about everything in between! Her blog is vibrant, crisp and clean and her photos are amazeballs! Her style is fun, sophisticated and girly, plus she’s pretty to boot! I just knew that I had to feature Carlinn in my first Front Row with… series, which will be a weekly series here on StyleScoop, going behind the scenes of people living and working in the fashion, beauty and style world. Enjoy the first installment… How did you get started in fashion blogging? When we moved overseas three and a half years ago, I felt like I needed to do something other than just go to the beach (we lived on an island), so I started a lifestyle blog that turned into a beauty blog then evolved into more fashion with a sprinkle of beauty decor and food. You have such beautiful photographs on your blog. Do you have a professional who takes them or do you take them yourself?…

Wear the Trends Six Ways with Fashion Blogger Sydne Summer

Wear the Trends Six Ways with Fashion Blogger Sydne Summer

A few days ago, fashion blogger @sydnesummer tweeted  “How I celebrated the last day of summer“. In South Africa, we’re heading into the glorious season of sun and sand, and so I was immediately intrigued by the title. I clicked only to find myself hooked on her website, ThinkThruFashion.com and her super cool ttF Fashion Staples Series for hours. Sydne blogs every day, showcasing stylish ways to wear six key items she picks out every month. Last month her focus was on an August Safari.  Her six key items included a tribal necklace, a military jacket, a canvas belt, an olive dress, a taupe bag and gorgeous snakeskin wedges. The aim of her ttF Fashion Staples Series is to show you how to make the most of what you’ve got in your wardrobe. Every day Sydne wears one of her monthly staples and blogs her outfit. At the end of the month, she posts a recap and shows you how to wear each of the six items at least six different ways. This is a great way to get inspired with different ways to wear your outfits and the six items staple is the perfect blueprint to make sure you wear the seasons key trends. Think…
