#CHANELHAUTECOUTURE 3D Fall-Winter Collection for 2015

#CHANELHAUTECOUTURE 3D Fall-Winter Collection for 2015

Karl Lagerfeld surprised audiences once again, as he unveiled Chanel’s 2015-16 Fall/ Winter collection. Always creating unique backdrops and beautiful settings for his shows, this 3D Collection, was presented in a casino theme reinvented at the Grand Palais. Between card games, roulette tables and slot machines, models with their neo-tomboy plunging bob hairstyles, showcased a very structured and graphic silhouette, while celebs and close friends of Chanel played blackjack in Le Cercle Prive.  Uniting the traditional expertise of Haute Couture with the latest technologies, Karl Lagerfeld created a range of 3D suits, using the “selective laser sintering” technique, where pieces come painted, embroidered with beads, lined with satin, embroideries or braided in leather. The CHANEL jacket was completely reinvented and thrust into a whole new dimension. “The idea was to take the most iconic jacket from the 20th century and turn it into a 21st century version which was technically not possible at the time it was born” says Lagerfeld. The iconic Chanel Tweed embellished dresses and suits were trimmed with the “new Chanel braid”, sewn into the continuity of the fabric. Evening looks follow an asymmetric line, veering towards the back. It comes swathed in lace, faille, silk, raffia, tulle and organza, duchess…

Gallery: Durban July 2012 Fashion Challenge & Young Designer Winners

Congratulations to third year DUT student, Tammy Sturrock who stole the limelight at this year’s Vodacom Durban July, taking home the prestigious Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award brought to you by Canon. Tammy follows in the footsteps of her brother, Brendan Sturrock. Bloemfontein designer, Mmuso Moilopai scooped the hotly contested Fashion Challenge title in her elegant hessian and checked ensemble that was beautifully finished with splashes of colour in the embroidery. Second place went to Cape Town’s Teresa Joubert with an intricately quilted cream dress that was finished with a cropped red bolero and cute apple hat, and third place went to Bloemfontein’s Pierre Fourie in his aqua and blue, low back dress infused with black embellishments and burnt edges. The 031Collection – Putting Durban Back on The Fashion Map

The 031Collection – Putting Durban Back on The Fashion Map

So last night I headed out to watch the 031Collection, a fantastical fashion event right here in my hometown, Durban. What an amazing event, so well organised, totally styled and very inspiring. As an ex Jo’burger, I’m proud to say I’m a Durbanite these days! I remember when Durban used to be T-H-E fashion mecca in South Africa, at least, when I lived in Gauteng, I thought so. Anyway, big up to Mr Price for putting Durban back on the fashion map. If this event is anything to go by, Cape Town and Joburg darlings, you’ve got some serious competition. 8 Local Legends, including; Ruff Tung, Nugini Shades, Leigh Schubert, Sibu Msimang, Amanda Laird Cherry, Terrence Bray, The Holmes Brothers and Francois Vedemme showcased their collections with Mr Price New Designer Finalists; Belinda Morgan, Hanrie Lues, Kaila Goss, Claire MacKenzie, Cindy Armstrong, Jacqui Munsumi, Gregory Dladla and Ludwig Bezuidenhout. The final is going down tonight in Durbs, and we’ll know pretty soon which new designer gets a fashion head start by designing a collection for Mr Price. All the designs were beautiful, my personal favourites among the legends included, of course, my favourite, Leigh Schubert who always has such amazing…
