3 Burger Joints to Try This Weekend

3 Burger Joints to Try This Weekend

If you don’t have anything planned this weekend, then check out my three favourite burger joints to give you something yummy and fun to do….  Rocomammas – Rivonia Go there for hip vibes, craft beer and a “not so normal burger” Rocomamas have the BEST BURGERS in town! Even more than that, the option to customise your burger (exactly how you want it), and the hip and vibey staff make this a great place to hang while you fill up on good food. The menu concept is pretty cool! You get a form with a whole bunch of options on it, and you basically check the box to customise your creation to your heart’s content! So let’s say you start with a 150g Smashed Beef Burger, then you want to add Blue Cheese Dressing, Pickles, Caramalized Red Onions and lets say Bacon, just check all the options, choose whether you want fries or not and then give it to your waiter. This customization allows you to go a little crazy (if you’re into that), but they also have the option to choose their standard burgers like the Classic Cheese, Old Skool, Bacon Cheese & Guac or the Rock Star. I thought I was…

Do This Weekend: Irene Dairy Farm

Do This Weekend: Irene Dairy Farm

I am 100%, a city girl! But I do like to day dream about how awesome it must be to live on a farm and ya know, do the whole Country Girl thing… If you’re looking for something a little different, relaxing and outdoorsy to do this weekend, you may just enjoy a trip to Irene Dairy Farm in Centurion. It’s a beautiful, old-style, operational dairy farm that started way back in 1895. You can go there for a morning outing and enjoy a meal, walk around amongst the dairy cows (the white ones are massive, you won’t believe how big until you see them), say hi to the swans (there’s a beautiful black swan too), or admire old, rustic random things like the vintage petrol pump. The Dairy Shop has T-H-E most delicious Double Thick real GREEK yoghurt! And trust me when I say real! I’ve tasted the Greek Yoghurt in Greece and nothing has even come close until now. Granted, it’s pricey as heck, but absolutely worth every mouth watering spoonful. Their bottled milkshakes and goats cheese Feta are pretty amazing too! If you’re planning on having breakfast or lunch, there are two restaurants to choose from. We tried…

To Do This Weekend… Mexican Food

To Do This Weekend… Mexican Food

On the weekend, the hubs and I headed out to explore Jozi, and more specifically, Jozi’s hottest Mexican restaurant, Perron. Based in Illovo, this Mexican gem is a hot spot for fabulous food and a must visit if you’re in the area. Bright and colourful, it’s feisty and funky and once you’ve experienced their Churros (aka Mexican doughnuts) you’ll save the location to your Waze account, and keep going back for more. The style of dining at Perron is just up my alley. You can either order a “meal” or snack on a bunch of tasty (not-so) little tappas (alone or with your entourage). So if you’re unsure about what to order, these offer a great way for you to get the whole Mexican experience in bite sized options. Their cocktail menu is also pretty interesting, with a different offering to the traditional fun drinks. Border Crossing, Chico, Negroni, Lime Mojito and Smoked Mexican Old Fashioned are some of the choices, but I went for the Delicias de Fruta. A raspberry vodka cocktail with orange liqueur, melon liqueur, pineapple juice and cranberry juice. It was perfect for a hot summer’s day in the city! For our meals, hubby went for a “real meal” – Sizzling Steak which…

Believe in Your Selfie {ootd}

Believe in Your Selfie {ootd}

I’m not a huge Pizza fan, but this weekend I was converted when the hubz and I headed out to Braamfontien (again – man I love that place) and discovered the best pizza in town! 86 Public is a seriously cool pizza joint in the heart of Jozi! With a pizza selection and cocktails worthy of praise, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a Saturday in the city! And, they even have a live DJ adding to their cool and hip vibe. With such striking surroundings, and a happy belly, who could resist doing a little OOTD… I picked up this cute graphic tee at Edgars the other day, and I had to have it! I mean, who doesn’t believe in the Selfie? And since we were planning on walking the streets of Jozi, I thought I’d break out my new panama hat. If you ever find yourself in Jozi, make sure you stop past 86 Public for a pizza and cocktails! I highly recommend the Bacon, Fig, Leek and Feta Pizza (doesn’t that sound amazing?) and their Chocolate, Marscapone, Pineapple, Pear, Banana and Strawberry Pizza, was deee-lish! Pizza and Chocolate – who would have thought?! Oh, and their Gin…

Exploring Downtown Jozi – The Neighbourgoods Market + Outfit Post

Exploring Downtown Jozi – The Neighbourgoods Market + Outfit Post

I’ve really missed Jozi! I forgot how much culture and vibe this beautiful city has. I guess it takes moving to another city for ten years to realise what you really have “back home”! A little while ago, we visited the Neighbourgoods Market in downtown Johanneburg. If you haven’t been or heard of it before, it’s a saturday-only market in the heart of Braamfontein. The vibe there is really cool, a little hipster and a really great place to hang out, have a drink or feed yer’ face with delicious treats. You absolutely HAVE to try the Paella. It’s beyond anything you’ve ever tasted – and you can witness the whole cooking process in giant (and I mean giant, look how small the people look in comparison) paella pans. You might want to grab a quick treat like maybe a Miya’s Sushi Cupcake beforehand, as the Paella que is seriously long. The longer you wait, the hungrier you get! The lower level is where you “pick” your food. Upstairs, on the rooftop, there is an open air spaced area for you to munch it down, or have a drink in the bar. The drinks selection is quite interesting, whether you feel like a Melon Mojito served in Consol jars or, warm red wine…

Nougat & Wine Pairing at The House of JC Le Roux

Nougat & Wine Pairing at The House of JC Le Roux

Forget good food and wine, nougat and wine is so much better! When you just happen to be in Cape Town, whether you live there or you’re just visiting, you absolutely have to take a drive to Stellenbosch and visit the House of J.C. Le Roux to indulge in their Nougat & Wine pairing. I’ve been “wine tasting” before in Cape Town, but this was a completely different atmosphere. The set up is uber luxe and indulgent from the moment you walk in. Beautiful decor, a quick 5 minute tour through the winery (to see how it’s made without the boring tour guide shpiel) and then onto the wine tasting! Bring on the bubbly! You get your own table that’s set up with five fabulous wines and a guide (ours was the very knowledgeable Simon Dicks) who explains the different wines to you. It’s not so much a lesson, but rather of an interesting story behind the bottle and how it’s made. With the Nougat & Wine pairing, you get to sample five wines, each one matched to compliment a type of Nougat. First up; Pinoit Noir, Pinot Noir Rosé  and La Vallée Rosé. These three wines are Méthode Cap Classique wines, which means…

Mason Jar Love

Mason Jar Love

Mason Jars are a great way to pretty up your home.  I love how they can easily be turned into cute decor and functional pieces, adding classic beauty to just about everything. Here are some lovely ideas you can do, using mason jars… Mason Jars can make great, vintage-style soap dispensers. You could make this yourself, or if you’re not much of a DIYer, then you can buy this one from Postroadvingate on Etsy! This idea is great for a summer garden party! Make your own lemonade and serve it in style through a mason jar! This idea came from Brides.com. Now, if you don’t have a fancy cutter to create your own design, just punch a hole through the lid and stick a straw in it, then put a pretty fabric ribbon on the straw to hide the punch hole! I love this idea! Using mason jars as dining table centerpieces or to store flowers around your home. Wish I could get my hands on this classic vintage style mason jar. {image source} Mason Jars make cute and personalised gifts for Christmas and house warming parties. Make your own jam or cookies and put them in a pretty mason…

The Best Eggs Benedict in Durbs – Arts Café

The Best Eggs Benedict in Durbs – Arts Café

If you’re in Durban and looking for a great place to have brunch on a lazy Sunday morning, look no further than the Arts Café in Glenwood, Durban. A fabulous venue with a fabulous menu! They make the most amazing Eggs Benedict you’ve ever tasted! A perfect recipe, made with just the right amount of Hollandaise sauce, so that you can still taste the other ingredients. I’m all about fabulous food that looks and tastes good, but I also like to taste the different flavours and textures of the meal. Their Eggs Benedict is definitely a winner. I tried the spinach, while my other (and better) half, had the salmon on Sunday and we both agree, they are the best we’ve had! Cooked to perfection, so that when you “dig in” and cut the egg, the yolk pours out, while the egg whites stay firm and properly cooked. While you’re there you simply have to try their Spanish coffee. It’s coffee served in a glass (as apposed to a cup or mug) and flavoured with citrus and cinnamon! Mmmm! Totally unique and a must for all coffee lovers. The Arts Café is trendy and has a lovely atmosphere. Whenever we’ve…

Fab Food – Olympia Cafe Kalk Bay

Fab Food – Olympia Cafe Kalk Bay

Since loading the new Lifestyle, Food & Decor category to the StyleScoop nav bar, I figured that it would be nice to feature some of my favorite places to eat. Something I hope to add to more often, because gals like us, who enjoy dressing up and looking good also love to enjoy life’s other little pleasures, like amazing food. My hubby and I have made a point to discover new and interesting places for weekend brunches, and although I’ll be featuring mostly Durban spots, today I’ll share my all-time favourite spot in Cape Town. Olympia Cafe in Kalk Bay… First off, I have to say that Kalk Bay is one of my favourite spots in Cape Town. I could spend days in this beautiful, old town with it’s antique shops and village-style charisma. It kinda reminds me of Europe and if you have a chance to visit Cape Town, do yourself a favour and check it out. While you’re there you absolutely have, have, have to go to Olympia Cafe! While the decor may be quite simple with wooden tables and nothing really fancy, the food is absolutely amazing! So amazing, you’ll be thinking about it over and over again. To this day, Olympia Cafe remains one…

My Festive Christmas Day

My Festive Christmas Day

This year we hosted Christmas day in our new house and had (almost) the whole fam over. It was a blissful day in Durban, and we really couldn’t have asked for better weather! Sun, food, family and fun, it was the perfect Christmas day… For starters and pre-Christmas-Lunch-snacks, we did a huge cheese board. I decided to do this after seeing it at the Woolworths Christmas Media day, where they had the most amazing cheese board on display. It looked so festive and so indulgent! It was a good choice and everybody loved it! I made mine a little more Christmassy by decorating it with tinsel and LED star lights. My mom in law makes the most amazing bacon rolls and she made a whole batch for Christmas. We added these to the cheeseboard, which I think made it look even more festive! Then it was decorated with glazed fruit, grapes and I even made my own caramelized almonds. Stanta made a huge drop under our Christmas tree! After opening our presents, it was time to dig into the food. We made a huge glazed gammon (I lie, we pre-ordered it – shhhh), roast beef, two over-sized roast chickens, potato…
